GTX 460 1GB E.E. TIM Replacement (w/Pics) - Page 4

no matter what thermal paste you use i dont see it decreasing temps by 8c ever. in fact when i replaced my 285's paste i saw no difference in temps.

try putting multiple lines on the gfx card. this way it spreads out better and covers more area

the pea method is really for cpus since the cores are in the centre and is much smaller than gpus

My GTX 460 1GB at 800/1600/2120 never went over 70c with the dot method, and that was in summer (Australia, so it's like 35c ambient)

For GPU's, the dot method, or a small, THIN line of paste across the longer end of the GPU and then attaching the heatsink. Spreading not required.

Some of the 460 EE's have dodgy coolers (manufacturing issue), I know as I had one. Got onto EVGA and they confirmed the issue and said to RMA it. Then bought the 460 hawk and couldn't be happier. max load temps I've seen at my 24/7 OC (in sig) were about 69-70c (with a 1:1 fan speed ratio) with ambients of around 26c.
