Having the hardest time finding a laptop for my girlfriend, help wanted!

We went to Micro Center so she could get a little hands-on with some units out today. Currently she has a HP pos that wont work unless plugged in, 4:3 aspect ratio, windows xp, you get the drill. She's going back to school at Ohio State this fall, and needs a new laptop.

From our Micro Center exercise, I've determined I need a tablet. Looking at the Transformer but waiting on the Galaxy Tab 10.1... whoa whoa, off topic (I'm sure I'm not the only one who went shopping with someone else only to be convinced they need something for themselves...).

Anyways... netbooks are too small for her, and the 15.6" standard size laptops are too big. The problem, is that her budget is 400, up to 500 if REALLY needed. How come I can't find any budget laptops in the 13" range? It's apparently the hardest thing to find (unless I'm just being obtuse). I would like for it to have Windows 7 Home Prem (originally I was shooting for 64-bit and 4GB of ram, but that may or may not be unreasonable expectation), and be capable of wireless N so I can turn my router to N only

So OCN I call for your help in this matter. Any worthwhile suggestions? I was trying to stay brand conscious but I think I might just have to purchase the first thing I find that fits this description.

Ah. Thank you for taking the time to reply. However, in my initial post I had mentioned that 15.6" laptops were in fact too big, and that I was looking for 13" laptops. Mobility is key.

The one you linked is a 17" behemoth!

Is 11-12 inches too small because there are so pretty decent options right here in terms of performance per battery life and light weight. I know I want these.

The problem with the 12 inchers... is that she hasn't seen one yet. I've yet to see them at a B&M store around here. She knows 10" is too small, and 15" is too big, and loves the 13".

Will she like the 12" models? Who the hell knows. LOL

Those 12.1 inch Asus eee's are pretty nice, I don't think she will have a problem with 12 or 13 inch as they pretty similar in size not that noticeable to the eye.

I myself have a similar problem 12 - 13 netbook or laptop for $750 NZD.

I'm not sure there's one in that budget range that isn't re-certified.

not sure how warranties work for re-certified but that's a pretty nice find.
