I am a failure as an overclocker... - Page 2

I say you can start by purchasing a more better cooler, as the Hyper TX3 while it can suffice if you do a mild overclock it will have trouble keeping your computer at ideal temperatures at 1GHz+ overclocks. I say something like the Scythe Mugen 2 or the Noctua NH-D14 would do it's job.

As for a legit guide I say take a moment a read through these:
Phenom II Overclocking Guide

[Guide] Temperatures, Heatsinks, Fans, Monitoring, and More!

By the way are your temperatures at 56c during max load or when it's idle?
When it's idle.
You should try to reseat your cpu.
You must have installed it wrong or something.

It's a good cooler, just not as good as some <$60 aircooler.

EDIT : Adding a second fan add another $10.
Makes it a $70 cooler and believe me there are much better sub $70 aircooler
You just made yourself look ridiculous. Of course I'm going to say I think, it's my own damn opinion.

For $60 the H50 is a pretty good option. I've been happy with mine and I certainly like going to a lan party without a huge air cooler putting stress on the board with every bump. Not to mention how efficient it is to have hot air blown directly out the back of your case than to have it dumped right back off where it was pulled in.

Sure you can get good air coolers. But for $60 the H50 is still the best option in my opinion. I'm not going to count the cost of an extra fan, since you can always use your existing 120mm case fans.

For that Price Get a better Air cooler, the H50 is good, but there are better Air coolers. I have the PII 970 and at first my idle temps increased 1c over the Corsair A50, while my load temps dropped 10c, but now Its about the same. I had the TX3 before the A50 and can tell you that that is your heat problem. While at load I run 59c @ 4ghz 1.47vcore, with the TX3 I ran 61c at stock, 3.5ghz - 1.37vcore.

But..

You'd be surprised what a H50,H60.H70 and H100 can really do when it's overclocked. Haven't you seen this thread? MANY results and many wins. You still fail. Air Cooler is NOWHERE good as water cooled but sure there are a few air coolers that can compete with water but water always takes first ahead because it transfers heat FASTER than air.

Here is the link to water cooling thread to show you proof they overclocked VERY well.

You're stupid you know that? They actually overclock amazing with Corsair water cooling.

Don't be afraid to experiment with EVO overclocking utility. If you use the auto tuning function it can help you understand what might be holding you back.
In my case I was trying to use the multiplier and as it turns out my chip preferred to be overclocked using the FSB which I would have never figured out on my own. If I touch the multiplier I get instability but 17x236@1.5v is stable.
I ran the tool and tweaked the results to stability and have had 4.0 stable since, also thinking you are going to get a 1Ghz OC out of the first chip you try is a mistake.

LOOOOL
I'm stupid.

I could manage the same overclock on a simple $30 cooler.
Who's stupid ?

And for $60 and a "water cooler" claim they better cool decently.

Lol just because it's not SI measurement doesn't mean it's backwards. That's like arguing 23% of canada is backwards because they speak french. Honestly dude..
