XFX Ati Radeon HD 5670 getting at 90C

Hello,
I know this is abit noobish question but can you please explain to me why and i getting t 90-91C (degrees Celsius) when doing a Dirt3 benchmark on ultra settings.
Now it hasnt been overclocked and i've even put a Scythe 120mm right on top of the VGA..those are the results (90-91)..what whould've happened if i hadnt had the fan.

Dirt3 is like gunner2.gif
Im like sozo.gifsozo.gif
5670 is like devil.gif

I've even attached a GPU-Z sensor log

P.S The benchamrk only took like a minute or twobut the readings are clear...it ranges prom 85-91!

MY question is...WHY? and IS THIS OKAY?
Thanks

Keep your case open and see if the 5670's fan is operational.

Open up Afterburner and set the fan profile to max, just to test it out.

If your Fan does work, try applying new TIM.

If it doesn't work, RMA ASAP.

What Direction is the Scythe Fan blowing? If anything, have it so it sucks the hot air OUT of the case. Poor fan placement can actually bring hot air back into your GPU. Just food for thought.

Ideal fan settings in the case: Bottom fan (if your case has one) blows air into the GPU. Case Side Door fan pulls hot air from that area out of the case.

Re-applying the thermal paste would be my first step.

@hollowtek thanks for the tip...my scythe actually is blowing at the bga and its a side panel one...i have a no-name case (srsly absolutely nwoere on teh case can you see the manufacturer) so since im cheap i replaced the side panel with a cheap material with holes...i think its a fece or something..anyways the sace is "open" for it having a lot of holes...the fan is operational...also what is TIM (sorry im a noob at these things, especially phrases)

Thermal Interface Material, AKA thermal paste or thermal compound. It's a very thin layer of material between a chip and its heatsink that aids heat transfer. Sometimes stock TIM is crappy, so replacing it is a good idea.

very odd, my 5670 peaks at 50c and my case has the worst airflow

91 Celsius is way too much. Reapplying tim is good solution, maybe its solid now as times passed or bad tim. Anyways check if fan is working correctly.
