That being said, I feel that it is impossible to form an opinion on this until we hear what was changed about the rules. I have a odd feeling that if Valve really made some new evil, draconian, money-grubbing rules that it would effect more than just Alice, Crysis 2, and Star Wars. This is more than likely an unfortunately combination of circumstances that has forced a few games off of Steam.

Thanks. Unlocked mine with my Steam key. +rep

Now if only I could activate my older EA games. Origin would then have a purpose on my computer.

what has changed recently on steam..............The introduction of Free to play games on Steam, where items are purchased through steam, instead of in game, or on other websites. So that steam gets a piece of the money.

Crysis 2 DLC is bought in game, Steam doesnt get a piece of that. If they recently rewrote the rules for Free to play games to sell through that. Perhaps they said hey crysis 2, you need to sell your DLC through us in a shop, or else we wont let you sell it.

This seems to be possible with EA saying recent rule changes forced steam to remove the product. Then the fact that The new crysis map pack just came out now and we have the problem.

Alice has also gone missing. Anyone own it know if DLC is purchased in game, similar to crysis? Alice is currently available on origin with the original free.
But Crysis 2 isn't free to play and Mass Effect 2's DLC isn't for sale through Steam and it is still there. Also, other DL services don't seem to be an issue elsewhere in the world of available games for Steam so EA isn't telling the whole truth. When someone is willing to say some of the truth, but not all of the truth, that usually indicates some of the truth looks bad for them. I love Steam and I sort of hate EA since the player suspension incident, but I'd call Steam wrong if they are wrong here... if we get the whole truth and from that they really are wrong.

So it seems that valve doesnt want EA to become another distributor.

If the Crysis 2 sales plummit then you will crysis 2 back on the steam store and off origins.

I hope people speak with their wallets on this one

So therefore CryTek broke the rules.

Since Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead is still up on Steam, these were most likely new rules that CryTek was made aware of and agreed to while they were negotiating the terms for Crysis 2.

Good points. There is more to this story, folks.

I have Crysis and Crysis Warhead on Steam. so what's the big deal if when (or if) I decide I want Crysis 2 and I get it somewhere else?

What I basically see here is an epeener wagging contest between a distribution corporation and a product development corporation that, end of the day, has no effect whatsoever on me, the consumer.

all of that DLC was available Prior to the new rules are grandfathered in. They were legit at the time, and should continue to be. But anything released afterward would apply the new rules. Which would explain why the first DLC for crysis 2 didnt get them kicked, it was grandfathered in, then next one which just gets released, gets them removed.

Just a theory, dont have anything to back it up.

Does anyone own alice, and can they confirm DLC is purchased in game?

If the rules change like i think. Since it wasnt offered on steam, it got the boot for the same reason as Crysis 2.

What is Free-to-Play?

Free-to-Play games are available to download for free and can be played without a subscription or a credit card. Your Steam wallet allows you to purchase items and content in-game to customize your gameplay.

Will I need a credit card to play?

No, there are no upfront obligations to download and play Free-to-Play games, however you will need a supported payment method to fund your Steam Wallet if you wish to purchase items or content for the game.

Will I need to fund my Steam Wallet?

If you wish to purchase in-game items or content, you will need to fund your Steam Wallet. Please see the Steam Wallet FAQ for more information.

Hmmm need money in a steam wallet to purchase items. Time will tell if we see more games getting yanked, or adding steam wallet for payment methods. Really though, steam wallet. come on.

Steam Wallet has been around for months, it's not new. Though to be perfectly honest, in the cases of those specific free-to-play games that have item-malls, I'd feel more secure in using the steam wallet than the game's site.
