When stuff like this happens, it's about money. Whether EA wants more revenue for their games or Steam doesn't like the presence of Origin, it was and it's still Steam decision not to carry those games.

Steam is preventing their users from buying EA games. Where's the petition for that?
But Steam fanboys will give them a pass once again.
If its steam being a stubborn douche and not hosting bf3, crysis 2 and alice then its their own fault and i'll deny them my revenue as well. Bf3 is going to be a must have on the PC and if valve is to stuck up to recognize that they will pay financially for it. Right now we do not know who is at fault until someone makes a statement.

They don't feel their slice of the pie is big enough?

Steam is the pie. Everything else is just the crumbled up streusel stuff on top. With the percentage of the digital distribution market that Steam currently holds, they don't really need to set crazy unreasonable terms for exclusivity to ensure that people buy stuff on their platform.

I think that, until we know the specific terms that Crytek/EA were unwilling/unable to meet, it's premature to speculate on how terrible of a company Valve or Crytek or EA or Activision Blizzard (wait, how did that get there?) is. Exclusivity seems like a ridiculous demand, my bet is that there's some kind of incentive for Origin buyers of Crysis 2/BF3 that EA won't give Steam. Impulse, D2D and the like aren't big enough to refuse big-time EA games even if they're getting shafted in terms of incentives to buy from them, but the Steam platform owns so much of the market that they can afford to tell EA to either give them something that compares or shove it.

Possibly, but not necessarily. All we know is that rules have been violated, but not who's rule or what rules.

It could be that Steam has imposed some kind of exclusivity rules.

Or it could be that Origin has.

There is not enough information to know.

If this is such a big thing, why are no other large developers' games missing? If these terms were so terrible, I'm sure we'd be hearing about it from other groups. I'm still guessing that EA used this 'reason' to get out of selling on Steam...
Exactly, and I have the same suspicion. It looks like EA wants to hurt Steam bad enough they are willing to take an opportunity loss to do it.

Wait a freaking second? Now I realize, will updates still come out on the Steam Version for people who bought the game on Steam?

it's not an origin exclusive... as D2D still sells it pre-order...
it is Steam's policy that is keeping it from being on steam.

Exactly. While it was logical to associate Origin with the missing Crysis 2, now that it has been removed as the specific reason there isn't much to pin on either company until we know the actual terms that were refused.
