Upgrade Question

Thread Starter
Right now newegg.ca has a superclocked 560 on for $190.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814130661

Right now I have a GTX 295 and this site says that it's faster in almost every way than the 560.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=603&card2=641

My question is, should I replace my 295 with the 560? I'm sure I could get at least $70 for my 295 so the upgrade would only cost me like $150 MAX. The only reason I'm even looking at doing this is because no one has solid info on the new Kepler GPUs

Yes the 560 would be a great upgrade you will notice the fps increase and the smoother gameplay And im sure you could sell the 295 for $70 so for $150 it would be stupid no to
post #3 of 18
I would go bigger then the 560 maybe a 560 Ti or 570. Also when you go to sell the 295 sell it for at least $100. The 260 I own I see used ones go for $100 and it's lesser of a card then the 295 (pending on condition).

Well the reason I was looking at the superclocked 560 was that its faster than the 560 Ti though it has a few less stream processors. Am I going to notice anything because I'm losing like 700 MB of video memory? Also the comparison site says the 295 has better texture fill rate.

no way! i'd rather have the 295 and wait till you can upgrade bigger. Unless you need DX11 now.
Just out of curiosity why are you upgrading? Direct x11?

airly sure the 295 is faster than the 560, I believe it's around 570 levels. Either way the 560 non tis are currently way overpriced, this card is like 3% slower than the one you linked to and could be overclocked to match it pretty easily, it's $135 shipped after rebate.

Well I recently was told my 295 was slower than the new 500 line. Dx11 defiantly factored in to the decision as well. But it's mostly because I want a faster card to either last until I can get a Kepler or maybe the 2nd line of Kepler GPUs.

Here is your 295 compared to a 480 which offers comparable performance to the 570 I said I believed the 295 was about equal to. Here is your 295 compared to a card just maybe 10% slower than the 560. This are just to give you an idea but I would not upgrade to anything less than a 580 to make sure it does not feel like a sidegrade, unless you absolutely need DX11 right now, which you likely do not.

Hmmm, the 295 is still a fast card, close to a GTX 470 stock which in turn is faster than a GTX 560.

I would wait for Kepler. There's no info on it because hardware manufacturers don't like bragging about their products 4-5 months in advance. No one knew anything solid about Fermi until a few weeks before launch.
