5850 HD w/3 monitors eyefinity

Thread Starter
Hey guys brand new to the forums, I just have a few questions for some people with more knowledge than me.

FIRST OFF

This is my current build:

-Intel® Core™ i7-875K Processor (8M Cache, 2.93 GHz)
-GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P LGA 1156 Intel P55
-SAPPHIRE TOXIC 100282TXSR Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
-Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue 750W
-G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
-ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM
-CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler
-COOLER MASTER HAF 932
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM

WHAT IM LOOKING TO ADD:

now that you know that what im looking to do is add 2 or 3 monitors depending on what this build can handle I would like the monitors to either be:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...s-_-24-236-096

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236059

but if there are other monitors you guys would recommend that are around that price range let me know.

MY QUESTIONS:

-Will the graphics card I currently have run 3 monitors in eyefinity?
-I play a lot of WoW and some graphic intensive games such as Witcher 2, will the card I have with 3 monitors in eyefinity be really slow?
-What are the benefits of eyefinity vs. just adding another monitor, is what it does is just take the game and put it on all three screens at once ?

-Thanks for your help

It'll run eyefinity given the right active adapter, easy to get and cheap.

Performance wise, it won't be great, and given the resolution impact... you will be vram choked besides the huge load on the gpu.

Bens of 3 screens in eyefinity are well you're gaming on 3 screens instead of one. On the 2D desktop end, you've got 3 screens with which to be more productive on.

As said, you WILL be able to run eyefinity, but you will have to run on low-medium settings to get a decent frame rate. Later on though, if you got another 5850, you would notice hug performance increases.

Eyefinity treats all three screens as one, so it's like having one giant screen with a massive resolution, think of it that way.

How much VRAM does it take to make Eyefinity viable? I have Crossfired 5850s myself and I've considered going the Eyefinity route.

wow, thanks for the quick responses.

-If you can quantify it how much performance loss would I notice playing wow if I am only playing on medium settings?

-Also about the adapter for the eyefinity.. can you tell me where I can find one of those?

-About the monitors, are they alright for running 3 display ?
Search Google for active display port to dvi converter or just check the list on the ATI site of approved converters for this purpose.

Secondly, id get monitors with the thinnest bezels you can find and monitors that look off good off axis like IPS panels.

Ok, thanks I found the adapters.

I was not thinking about the gap between the monitors when I was looking for them.. that is a good point. Those two I picked seem to have some big sides to them. Anyone know of any 22-25in monitors with good resolution with small sides and are around 150$ ?

Asus makes good reasonably priced monitors. And the 5850 can handle eyefinity no problem. Though I'd recommend getting something with more vram for the increased resolution.

You're going to want at least 2GB for Eyefinity... If you want to run at high AA or any of that.
