5850 HD w/3 monitors eyefinity - Page 2

i use the same adaptor as the guy above me , works great but 2 monitors will have screen tear unless you got the 5850 eyefinity 6 card .. or get one of those active apple adaptors which cost $100+ .

Performance will be poor , you wont be able to play anything higher than 4800x1080 medium settings @ maybe 40-50fps .. if your lucky

I play my games in eyefinity off my 6970 , performance is alright i can play most games maxed out @ 4800x1080 .. 5850 is scraping the bottom of the barrell though.

to enjoy eyefinity at the highest resolution and settings you need xfire 6950's atleast .

If i an recall correctly someone tried crysis in eyefinity with his 5850 , settings maxed out .. he was getting 1fps . Thats due to the lack of vram though , should be playable with no AA though .

It would matter with the size monitors though no? I know someone who uses 3 15" monitors and a 5850

-would it be more beneficial to get another 5850 and crossfire them or to get a new graphics card like a 6950? I feel like have 2 5850's would still be putting alot of stress on the card that has the two monitors hooked to it... or does crossfiring them just make them share vram so that they work as one ?

-I dont want the performance to be bad and I have some money to spend so let me know

VRAM is limited to 1 card's Vram. If your 5850 has 1 vram and the next 5850 you put in is 1 gb, you only have 1 GB. I don't ever follow the multicard setups but I believe it's like a multicore cpu where the work load is split up

Here's an older articles on it.

I've ran Eyefinity off a HD 5870 for a good year so far, and you can most definitely get away playing 'Most' games on Medium with a good 2-4 AA(Given I had a reasonable Overclock on my 5870) I hear WoW isn't very 'graphical' so I'd presume you could run WoW pretty high up. If I was you I'd check out a Used 6950/6970. I can play the Witcher 2 on high never dropping below 30. And the Witcher 1 maxed out completely.

I'd personally vote for those 3 Asus Monitors(1080P with the Rebate under $150 is a solid deal) but make sure you get the right adapter, as some Cards have a Mini Adapter or the Regular sized one.

Probably going to splurge and just buy a 6970 also. Might wait and test out the 5850 first though.

Just thought I would update after I got everything.. Ended up getting 3 of these monitors:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollHelpful1

The 5850 with these 3 monitors and eyefinity works fine. I get 60 fps in WoW with settings at Good quality. I also get good fps in Call Of Duty and World at War. Screens look great everything was very easy to set up.

GPU never gets above 70 Degrees Celsius

Also the 3D Marks GPU test came out very well with an average fps above 60.

Bottom Line
The 5850 can handle eyefinity very well did not have a big or even noticeable decrease in gaming or video performance.

-Thanks for the help everyone
