I would add even if current x86 software doesn't work (which it may or may not) with the ARM chips, thats not to say there won't be new software or versions that do (like games for mac) - Since arm is dominating x86 in sales it seems reasonable that if nvidia can pull a hat trick and MS follows we may see another option on the market besides the same old tired Intel vs AMD vs Apple (w/ Intel).
software emulation isnt efficient in term of performance ....

and i doubt that nvidia would go with arm for a full on high power chip ....

so that leaves the option for an nvidia apu option to do x86 emulation quite pointless

and even if they use them in small form factor desktops it will still be limited to a specialised software stack ... wich isnt good for the masses .... the reason why arms cpu's are good for their market is because of say ...smart phones or emerging tablets ... and they have their own os and app's ...

but they have alot of grounds to makeup if they want to take on a slightly more os'ish role ... which isnt ready yet ....

but then again with the booming tablet and smart phone market nvidia surely has a good weapon to gather sales in the comming years that's for sure

their ceo is good at his job ... i never faulted nvidia for that at all .. but the thing is ... sometimes you have to be a bit more realistic .... but its counter productive in any big multi-billion corporation

Now Microsoft, after having made most of the software you need, is seeking to expand in other markets, they want market monopoly somewhere else...

A Computer that is CPU/GPU driven would give these new APUs a lot of performance, though I doubt it would save much in the battery life department, it would increase performance for smaller machines, like Phones, Tablets, Netbooks, etc...

That's a good thing...

So if M$ makes a new O$ to increa$e their software market & at the same time possibly capitalize in a computer market, like Netbooks or Phones, then they could strategically provide the best hardware / software combo package in one..

No need for 3rd party just create & distribute world wide...

I see your great plan M$ and I applaud you, but I'm not buying it, sorry..

I will stick to my Big Desktop, with Big Monitor, and nice Video Card, fortunately for me, my CPU can handle everything I need it to do, adding code for programming for APUs or CPU + GPU usage is only going to make software cooler for me, so thanks there...

Whether any software makers jump on the bus, that's anyone's guess...
investing in software isnt as easy as you'd think ... since hardware changes so fast ... that its hard to code for multiple platforms ... as opposed to console to wich are far easier to code for ... closed platforms are easier to code for ...

so that's why the development isnt as fast as it could be ... and the amount of money needed for the slight gains arent that positive ... so they are doing what they can
