Just wondering - isn't it possible to just reverse the polarity of the current? Its not very hard to do - but I don't know if that'll damage the fan at all. That way it'll still be facing up, but spinning backwards.

A fan is an electronic device. It's not electrical. Reversing the polarity - the best fans have blockers for that. The really cheap ones -

Remember also that the fan blades are asymmetrics and not optimized to spin backward for the best results

Ok, finally I have almost killed my fear and will start doing this.

One question though:
My PC will be placed on a shelf high up in my room. Will flipping the exhaust fans make a difference in that scenario? (hot air rises?)

I also have a fan suspended from the ceiling in my room... difference?
