I tried to mount my old Promise EX8650 controller card on a X16 slot along with the EX16650, since my older brother just refuses to try it in our home server instead of the PCI SI3124 card, I figured I could as well... re-use it biggrin.gif
It works paired to the EX16650 (talk about a SAS controller SLI configuration tongue.gif) and this way... they can drive 24 HDDs biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
I am brainstorming a... Elysium adaptation: I will remove the Samsung S182 ODD to free up one front 5.25 bay. This way, I can achieve 20x3.5"+4x2.5" via a recycled Icy Box backplane. That would be: 12x3.5" on internal rails, 8x3.5" on front accessible rails, 4x2.5" on front single-bay backplane.
Talk about a beast...

Another option is 20x3.5" and one miniSAS port rear-accessible externally. redface.gif

Looks like only one Bank of Fans Per Rad

Just one set per rad. The bottom rad has pull but you can do a push/pull. The front 360 has a push setup and there's room for push/pull. The top 360 barely has room for a single row of fans. I barely cleared the mb's top heatsink and had to fight it a bit (eventually I realized to angle it in). You can do a another bank of fans on top but you'll have to ditch the top mesh panel. I'm thinking of adding a Koolance shroud to the top to add the extra row of fans but it'll look awkward with the top i/o panel.

Tbh, temps are really good at the moment. I might just stick with the single row of fans and upgrade the fans down the road.
