(Slowly reading this 1400+ post thread so forgive me if this is already answered)

Has anyone had issues with the docking bay on the Elysium locking up their computer? Mainly the USB 3.0 / Sata / Drive Dock... Normal USB work fine as do all the other ports if I bypass the docking bay. I have a second case that I am about to Frankenstein the docking bay from to see if it is truly the issue but would love it if someone has a know workaround.

The top compartment has no electronics built into it, it is a simple cabling, it could be a faulty cable of the dock (happens...), especially the SATA red one which has a very fragile connector under the bay (small PCB). Not all Sata controllers support hot-plugging or not-so-good shielding cables (the Elysium has 90cm long Sata cables to reach all motherboards you put in). Check connections... rolleyes.gif

I've looked at what I can see but it is pretty cramped at the top of the case. 90% sure it is from the dock cabling being bent more than 90 degrees at the connector as my other case has the wires with a nice curve to the bend.

In any case. This issue just popped up this week when I went to do backups with the SATA dock. Back up would start then pause after about a minute and the drive would drop out, drive works fine at the same port on the mother board (not fun to do an eleven drive back up this way). USB 3.0 was an instant system hang when used at the dock but OK at the board adapter for the headers. USB 2.0 I can plug in and out all day at either with no issues. I was hoping this may have been a known issue with a bad ground or whatnot (would make sense for the SATA dock but not the extension style USB 3.0). but par for the course is that I always find that one issue no one else has. doh.gif

Going to tear it down in the morning and see if there is a common metal ground between SATA and USB 3.0 and go from there.

Still love this case though ! ! !

I personally only use the blue usb 3.0 attached to 19 pin header.I have taken off all the other cables I don't use they are just a waste of space and cables.

couple of issues, you have to set your bios to allow the hot swop and esata to be hot swop, also, usb 3 (with m/b extension cable 20 pin)need drivers to work correctly, or will lock up or not work at all.... i found out the hard way!!
hope this helps. have to do this every re install on my gaming rig, so 2 to 3 times a year..

for Intel: set BIOS to AHCI or RAID and you have to install RST, otherwise hot-swap and gen2m won't work with standard INF driver (i.e. support for Esata and 2m/6ft cables). With Marvell 6141/6145 you have to enable the Removable feature for every port in device manager, 9128 don't remember if it has that setting. Silicon Image 3124/3132 all support hot-swap and gen2m natively (but are sometimes limited to 100-110MB/s). I never had issues with USB3.0 controllers that required a reset, if you don't install the driver simply the ports and connected devices are not recognized, had some problems with a D720200 card that dropped an external VLI hub but system never locked up. Nec/Renesas USB3.0 controller can be troublesome if you install the wrong driver or don't update its firmware, since there's different chips: 720200 720200A 720201 720202, VLI800-based cards seem more stable (have one in my workstation, never had a problem), didn't have issues with one of the first ASmedia chips on my Asus P8H67-M board (but I've never used it...), don't know about FL chips. I still have to power up and test my new Gigabyte B75M board with native USB3.0 wink.gif but I installed a Z77 for a friend and if you enable AHCI you'll require to install three Intel driver packages: INF+RST+USB3.0, otherwise the SS ports will work in USB2.0 mode.
