I feel like I got a decent amount of work done today. I browsed home depot and found some screws for my side panel window and some corner bracers that I think will work for mounting the quad rad in the front.

I started by using some black acrylic (from the tap plastics scrap bin, $1.70 a pound seemed pretty fair to me) to make a mounting system for my HDDs. I just need to get some bolts and nuts and I can attach my 3 HDDs to the bottom of the case. Ha, the elysium drive bay screws wouldn't fit through my holes so I had to collect a bunch of random screws to mount those HDDs. When I get back home (I'm staying at my parents' place for a week) I can use matching screws.

A shot of the corner bracers on the RS240 that I took off of the bottom of my case. I'll make due with just the ex360 up top (can't use the EX480 until I get my new res so that I can replace the XSPC X2O 750 pump/res from the drive bay pillar). I think they should work. I'll have to cut off the excess metal, but not bad for $4.67 for a four pack.

A shot of the side panel with most of the center cut out. You can also see some of the acrylic sheets that will eventually be an illuminated panel.

A shot of the side panel after I cut more of the center out. I still need to fix the corners. They are a little crooked. I also need to figure out a way to paint the edges. Maybe I can find a paint pen.

That's it for today. I hope to finish the side panel tomorrow, cut some cable management holes in the back, and maybe get a start on the illuminated panel. The panel will take some work because I didn't plan it very well, which means that I'm going to have to do some cutting to get my acrylic sheets to fit.

I really like the clean cut that ya did on your mod for the side panel window! I had considered it as well, but the buyer wanted it to be able to be returned to stock, just in case.... Is the blue UV as well, ??

I have no experience with WD blues but have you checked how much they vibrate? My single WD black is in one of the Xigmatek drive cages on top of some acoustic foam and it still vibrates as mad when I feel the bottom of the case just beneath the HDD cage.
So I would definitely start up those HDDs if I were you to see if they resonate a lot before continuing the build. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, I would have been more hesitant to cut it if it weren't for the fact that I have a second side panel that I can switch out. The acrylic is just regular clear, but I haven't taken the protective plastic film off of it yet.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it.

JG you're the first one I see that follows my design biggrin.gif
i.e. placing 3.5"s on the bottom tongue.gif
Have 20 drives now and they vibrate veeeeery slightly, no annoying frequency sweeps due to part 7200 and part 5400, and I did not use any vibration damping method, just... nuts bolts and alu bars tongue.gif

PS: no news on my WD1003FBYX RMA... mad.gif

I just finished the side panel window. I'm pretty pleased with it. Unfortunately there is a tiny scratch in it. Tap plastics didn't seem to be all that careful when handling their products which is unfortunate. Oh well, it's not really noticeable.

I'm going to start working on the illuminated panel to cover the power supply and HDDs. Wish me luck as that should be the trickiest part of this project.

Anyway, all that I have time to do so far is to put a piece of black acrylic over the side of the drive bays. I'm not sure if I'm going to leave it there or if I'm going to build and install an illuminated panel there. The black has a nice clean look to it.

I bought a 21"x20" clear acrylic panel to use as a side panel window. I haven't cut my side panel yet. I might do that tomorrow. I might also start to work on an illuminated panel to cover my power supply and the hard drives that I will eventually have at the bottom of the case.

Here are a couple quick shots of the black acrylic cover.

I really think that black acrylic over the dvd bay sides looks GREAT !!! That was a simple but GENIUS idea, that does fix one of the Elysium's few flaws... Excellent work! On the rad 480 idea (bottom), why couldn't you just mount it down there from the rear? I mean, I was looking at my case, and if the pwr supply goes up top, then even if a small section of the fins aren't exposed to airflow, would it really hurt the performance thast much? Maybe so, I'm not sure, but I'm going to look for an older build log where another modder had installed 480's in the front AND the bottom...

You have a nice setup there, and plenty of room for expansions too!! I love the size of these cases' mobo trays, and the multiple extra standoff holes to add stuff to. I bought an NZXT usb expansion pcb and may also add my poweradjust USB pump controller to the tray too, and get the extra cooling for them as well... Welcome!!
