Minecraft crashing my graphics card

Thread Starter
As the title says. When I'm playing minecraft I can play for a bit and then after a while, it will crash my graphics card. Its also causing it to run at really high temps just before it crashes. Its weird because the card is absolutely fine for everything else. Any ideas on whats causing the problem?

Maybe because of the connection of the GPU and the mobo and anything interfering in between . Could be no GPU cooling that you have

But this is only for minecraft. Nothing else. I am looking into getting some cheapish GPU cooling though.

Is this any good? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/arctic-cooling-accelero-twin-turbo-pro-for-ati-and-nvidia-vga-cards

Edit: I've also run furmark at my resolution and the max temp i'm getting is 80 but the readout from HWINFO from just before the crash was a mental 103 degrees. It NEVER gets that hot, even with stock cooling.

What do you mean by it is crashing your GPU? IS it BSOD or is it giving you a warning about running out of memory? If it is the memory issue then there are a couple of fixes. First is to make sure you are running JAva 64bit version and not 32. I had 32bit first and got errors with memory running out. Then there is a way to increase heap memory and to go into the java virtual machine and increase memory. You can get to it in the control panel and open up the java app that is in there. There is tons of info on this if you google it and people list what to put in the virtual machine for the correct memory allocation.

The screen goes blank, and the refreshes with minecraft off the screen and a dialog in the bottom right saying the graphics card driver has crashed and recovered. Seems to have stopped doing it for the moment. I always have the option of going to catalyst 11.6 too

Go into the options and change the framerate limiter to 'balanced' or 'power saver'.

The game is running without vsync or framerate cap, so it is actually maxing out your graphics card putting unnecessary load on it, resulting in high temps and perhaps eventual crashing of an unstable GPU overclock.
