Gigabyte iSSD and my large capacity SSD.

Thread Starter
Would it be a waste since I already have a large capacity SSD? I am in the market for a new MB and looking at Z68. The iSSD caught my eye, and I was wondering would it be worth it compared to say the Z68-UD5 which is at the same price point right now. I don't have all my SSD space used at the moment but it might be that I do in the future.

So would it be worth it for the on board SSD cache or should I just get the UD5 and use my large capacity SSD for caching.

If for the same price you can get the iSSD I would get that, but there are a few points to consider:
*you can't accelerate an SSD with another SSD on Z68 - what would be the point?
*you could always put the SSD you're having now on a lappy and leave the iSSD to accelerate a HDD on your main rig OR
*you could use the iSSD and the SSD in the same rig and simply not use (for now) the iSSD to accelerate anything, just use it as another 20GB of fast storage aside from the SSD you're currently using. It would be possible for example to install a 7Lited version of Windows that uses some 6-8GB on the iSSD and still have room for some program files and/or pagefile while the games and the rest be on the second bigger SSD.

cheers

note: 64gb limit on cache ... also ... just in case you have windows with a +3tb boot drive in mind a little gotcha that isn't clear until you buy and try ... +3tb (efi gpt partition boot) support or issd cache support not both ... for efi gpt partition windows install / boot you must set pch sata control mode to achi not raid xhd ... therefore windows gpt boot and issd caching are mutually exclusive ...
