Amd athlon x3 450 overclocking?

Thread Starter
Hello! Ive just bought an Athlon x3 450 with a true triple core design but i have overclocked it from 3.2Ghz to 3.84 trying to achieve 4Ghz. I'm cooling it with a corsair A70 11 Celsius idle and 27 Celsius 100% load, Memory at 639 MHz dual channel (1333 under clocked). I'm wondering if anyone here achieved 4ghz? oh yeah bus speed is 240 but if i go higher, the comp freezes.. do i have to increase the north bridge voltage? sorry I'm new to overclocking and this forum

What is the RAM kit you are trying to use? Also how bout your HT/NB speeds? Have they been brought down to compensate?

my ram is
Mushkin Enhanced Stiletto 2x2 4gb ddr3 1333 ram, timings are 9-9-9-24 at 639mhz
HT/NB = 2400mhz, nb= 240mhz

the ht has to be brought down?
ya lower that ht..and keep ur nb at 2400mhz...u may need in create the nb/cpu voltage tho

4ghz achieved! lowering dram and ht did the trick. 4000mhz core, 2000mhz ht 500 ram (yes i know i will up this now) all stock voltages btw

I'm surprised you got there, having generic 1333 CL9 RAM nominally holds such overclocks back... or otherwise, RAM settings end up being improper of course and hard to configure.

You should watch the VRMs as they're uncooled and actually normally known for problems, and they are going completely uncooled due to your A70 blowing over them. On a triple core processor (lower power consumption) I wouldn't be too concerned; but if you've ever heard that these processors can be unlocked to quad cores, that shouldn't be done on this motherboard due to the VRM limitations & rap sheet for problems. (VRMs are power regulators to the CPU; see sig for more info)

the 450 i bought was a true triple core design should of gotten a higher end board with mosfet cooling :/ thanks for the help!

Congrats on your chip-4.0 at stock voltage means you have one similar to mine.Time for some VRM heatsink action!
