Need Help With QuadCore Q9550 Overclock - Page 2

Thread Starter
For the CPU VCore I have 1.3125V, and 1.3750V no 1.35V. Should I go to 1.3750V?

EDIT: Commenced Prime 95 testing as advised with 6x. Using 1.3125V, awaiting response.
Attached Pics 2 hours into Prime 95 Torture Testing, as well as CPU-Z, and RealTemp stats.

Your CPU is nicer than mine (1.225 VID vs 1.3 VID) so I would bet you can get away with 1.3125 Vcore and LLC enabled. If you pass the current test, and if it fails IBT after you raise you multiplier back up to 8.5, then try 1.3750 Vcore (which should be 1.344V in CPU-Z with LLC enabled, and will still be safe).

Also, if you have not yet, when you raise the multiplier back up, go into Advanced Bios Features and disable the power saving features Enhanced Halt State (C1E) and CPU EIST Function. You can turn them back on later if you want, but first get everything else stable.

It looks like your doing really good!

Find alot of help and setups here:
http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...ers-guide.html

You'll get plenty of help and you'll find a bunch of our BIOS setups.

1: I personally woulnd't trust that PSU you're using
2: Is that RAM 1066 or 800? You'll need 1066
3: The hyper 212 is going to get overwhelmed at the upper end.

Tried 8.5x with no success - tried both vCore Voltages of 1.3125 &1.3750V. Went to 7x instead, gaining a result of about 3.3GhZ from my original 2.83GhZ. Waiting for input. Included RealTemp, CPU-Z -- screenshots.

Dropping back to 6X to be on the safe side until further input is given. (2.83GhZ - FBS 471.0MHz)

EDIT: Also included Memory stats off of CPU-Z which looks like the frequency actually lowered after changing stats.

Unless your ambient temperatures are really high, it looks like your cooler could benefit from having the thermal paste reapplied and being reseated. Don't worry, unless you want to push it to hazardous levels of Vcore, the CM 212+ will be perfectly fine.

You won't need 1066 unless your current ram can't do 940MHz, aren't satisfied with with what it will do, or you want to push the overclock higher than the ram can run at the 2.00D memory latch.

I am wondering if you set the Vcore to 1.3125, why is it showing as 1.104 in CPU-z. Did you turn the power saving features off and enable Load Line Calibration? The Vcore should be reading about 1.28 at 1.3125. That may be why you can't boot with an 8.5 multiplier.

If your ram is DDR2 800, it's going to be your failing point. If you overvolt it and/or increase latency, you might get 850-900 but do you'll have alot of testing to do with with Prime Blend at STOCK CPU SPEED by lowering your CPU multiple and raising FSB/RAM. You can overclock RAM, but it takes alot of time and is not for those who want quick results. It's also not easy to test, and the RAM will most likely to die in the future if you run it overclocked 24/7. It doesn't seem like you're the type who wants to spend days overclocking RAM properly.

You should have DDR2 1066 with your setup, and if your CPU is an E0 stepping you should shoot for 4.0GHz with a better cooler, IMO.

Read through the EP45-UD3 thread, like I suggested. A little tweaking of the GTLs (CPU and MCH reference) and voltages, and it's almost a no brainer to get 4.0 out of an E0 Q9550 on your board.

At this time I don't have the money for more parts such as RAM, I want to get a nice speed preferably over 3.4GhZ though. In a few weeks I get my pay cheque and then I will consider upgrading parts to reach that 4.0GhZ. But if it's not possible at this time, it's understandable. Please suggest my next move.

If you can't get it to boot at 471 FSB, try booting with a lower FSB, like 450 x 8.5. Make sure Load Line Calibration is enabled, your BIOS Vcore is set to 1.3125, and that the power saving features I mentioned are turned off.

To test if your memory can run at the speed you have it running, download and run MemTest for Windows. You will have to open four instances of the program, and will need to set each instance to 825MB of ram. Then hit begin test in each instance and allow them to run until at least 100%, but more is always better. You can find it here.

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html

There is another memory test called Memtest86 that requires you to install it to and boot from a DVD, flash drive, or HDD. Let it do a few passes to be sure your ram is stable.
