Need Help With QuadCore Q9550 Overclock - Page 3

Bump your CPU multiple DOWN to say 6x while you test RAM. That way you take it out of the equation. If you fail P95 Blend at 6x CPU multiple and 470 FSB, you'll know it's a RAM/mobo fail.

First thing to try with RAM is bump the RAM voltage UP a notch and re-test. Be sure to have air on them for cooling. Then you can try loosening the timings, say 6-6-6-18 (if your stock it 5-5-5-15). Unfortunately P95 Blend needs HOURS of testing.

Once you get your RAM P95 stable at the HIGHEST FSB it can take (6x CPU multiple), then go back to CPU/board tweaking at 8.5, and use OCCT to test in the short term. P95 is not nearly as sensitive for CPU testing.

That screen shot you posted shows your Vcore at 1.13125 as opposed to 1.3125. That is why it will not boot at 471 x 8.5. Raise the Vcore to 1.3125. You already passed large FFTs at 471 x 6 for six hours. Raise the Vcore. You can't boot 4GHz at 1.13V!

EDIT: Concerning the Hyper 212+, for comparison, I am posting a link to a screen shot of my Hyper 212+ and Q9550. This was done with an ambient of about 72F. Being that I was testing with Intel Burn Test, (the hottest stress test available) you can see that the temps were reasonable for 4.2GHz and 1.344Vcore. If I were to simply test with a different program, I could indeed squeeze some more out of this cooler. This is why I recommended the cooler. Your idle temps should be similar to mine if it is seated properly and you have similar ambient temperatures (ignore cores 2 and 3, they have never showed lower than 40-41 so their real temp is more like cores 0 and 1).

Such a small mistake yet such a huge difference. Thanks for those eagle eyes! Running 4GhZ now. Attached are my CPU-Z , RealTemp Screenshots. Using 1.3500V. 471FSB. 8.5X. That Prime95 Test may have been at 1.13125, should I retest with Prime95 @ 6X?

Also Temps are reaching 63 at times as seen in RealTemp Screenshot of Max Temps, is this okay? should I change something?

Nice, yeah test your memory for a while with either of those programs I linked. If it gives an error try lowering your overclock a couple FSB or loosening timings. For Example if you get an error try again with either 465 FSB which will lower the RAM frequency to 930 from 940 but will also lower the overclock a little, or loosen the 5-5-5-15 timings to 6-6-6-15. Yous should try lowering the DRAM voltage as your last step, just retest with 2.00 after your done testing and pass at 2.10V.

After that you should try to resetting your cooler so that it works as well as it can. It can take multiple attempts to get a cooler working optimally.

EDIT: If it passed P95 471 x 6 @ 1.13V it will certainly pass at 1.31V. You should be close to running 471x8.5; make sure you have tested it with IBT or P95. The more stress testing it passes, the more you will know it's stable. Run P95 as much as you like, try different tests, experiment until you are bored. If you get an error adjust a setting and retest.

Hit 67 degrees on 4.0GhZ running Starcraft 2. Brought it down to 3.0GhZ. Still hitting a max temp of 64 (with the left core), other three temps are 54,57,61 (@3.0GhZ) while running Starcraft 2.

Current Settings: 7X, FBS: 429.0MHz, 3002.9MHz.

EDIT: The left core always seems to be the hottest on real Temp and it's the only one reaching the high temps others are always at least 3 degrees below it. What does this mean?

Those temps are fine, keep 'em below 75C at all time..

Regarding the temp difference between cores : it's perfectly normal for Q9550..

I think it means you need to re-seat your cooler.

Follow the method this article describes about filling in the channels on the heat-sink.

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=5

What thermal paste are you using? If your using AS5 or something that needs time to break in, just use the tube that came with the CM Hyper 212+. It is not bad and doesn't need to be broken in.

However, as long as your CPU cores stays under 70C at all times it is safe to use.

So I purchased the Antec Kuhler 920 temps are steady at about 40 @4.00Ghz. Also upgraded memory to GSKILLS 1066. All works great.
