AMD x3 720 Core unlock

Thread Starter
So my friend unlocked his 4th core the other day and so I thought I would since he had such great luck. My motherboard did not support unlocking so I updated the bios. (I have the Asus M4A785TD-EVO motherboard and updated tot he correct bios.) After the flash the motherboard booted and on the splash screen it said, "hit 4 to unlock extra cores." So I did and it went through the unlocking process restarted with 4 cores activated and Windows blue screens. From what I hear this means one of two things. A) 4th core is unstable give up. B) try upping the volts to make it stable. So I increased the Vcore voltage by .025 volts, saved, and restarted. Computer wouldn't even boot besides the LED lights and fans. I cleared CMOS and booted into the computer just fine with only 3 cores. So my question is. How do I up the voltage on this mo-bo correctly to see if I can get it stable. I'd like to have a quad-core for my media rendering job this summer and I will not be able to upgrade (I don't have the finances) until next year.

TL;DR:
Tried core unlocker.
BSOD
Tried upping Vcore by .025v. didn't boot. Cmos clear and is fine

How do I up my voltage correctly to try and get this core unlock to work. Yes, I know some 4th cores are just faulty.

Well basically boot into the bios, up your CPU voltage even more (I would try like 1.4v) and then unlock the cores, press f10 to save and exit. However if the core is not stable at stock voltage it's usually not worth messing around with. If it actually does unlock with alot more voltage applied, you're probably better off just running a triple core with a heavier overclock than a slower clocked quad core with a ton of volts.

^^This...1.4v is the number to look at when unlocking a good core, if you can't get it stable with 1.4v it is probably a defective core. If it still is not stable with 1.4v just abandon that adventure and go for a straight OC

Pretty much luck of the draw.

The 4th core on my 720 was unusable. After unlocking Windows hung and had a bunch of horrible display problems in applications. Even at 1.55v no dice.

Aside from bumping V's, not really much you can do.
