Random PC lock-up

Thread Starter
This only happened once, it happened last night randomly while using firefox, but since then been really really paranoid

I ran Memtest95+ for 4 hours, no problems, Prime95 for 6 hours in blend, no problems, ran games for 5 hours today (2 L4D2, 1TF2, 1 Spiral Knights, 1 BFBC2) and still can't pinpoint the issue

Voltages are all great, even busted out the mulitmeter and they are fine

Can PC's just randomly lock-up sometimes? I've run every hardware test I could throw at my PC but nothing is showing up as a culprit

Hard drives are my first guess. Smart readout on all drives if possible.

I've looked at all my hard drives, SMART readout indicates all drives are still the same status they were before

Oh I also re-encoded a episode of Mythbusters to x264 format with triple pass encoding, 100% CPU load for 2 hours, and no problem there either

May have been an errant power surge/spike/drain from mains power.

Your battery of tests should have found something if there was something to find.

Power is on a UPS power source, which itself is hooked up to a $200 Power filter power bar

My UPS is going bad?

EDIT1: I seriously can't find out whats wrong, memtest95+, Prime95, encoding movies and playing games for 5 hours should have brought a problem to the surface, but there is none

I know Mac's occasionally just lock up or freeze for no reason, and my old Phenom II 1090T would sometimes freeze when playing Minecraft, or go months at a time then suddenly lock up, and that I stress tested with Intel Burn Test for 12 hours after the lock up and no issues, and it locked up twice more after that and each time did a battery of tests, could not find the problem

I'm just trying to sink my teeth into this whole issue, I'm a paranoid schizophrenic so when something like this happens its like, FFFFFFFF breaks my whole world down

I dont think anything is going bad.

Its just been one lock up... in how many hours of use?

Just chalk it up to a gremlin for now, PCs just freeze now and again... its their way

If it happens more frequently or develops more symptoms, then its time to worry.

Just a question.. it locks up when you leave it at idle right? like trying to get out of sleep?

Nah its never put to sleep, and it happened when using firefox

Its one lock up in over 20 days of constant computer use, and about 100 hours of gaming, 70 hours of 3D rendering and 100 hours of watching movies, rest is just idle time, talking with friends etc

Maybe its Firefox? Try it with another version and see what happens
