First AMD build, getting a black screen. - Page 2

To be honest, I can not say I see anything appealing about MicroCenter. . No Item they sell is competitively priced nor are any of their combo's a good deal unless its 2009s technology in the bundle, which makes the price drop unworth it, just cough up the other 80 bucks and get all tech from this millenium

I understand your point but for the specific parts I got, it would have been double the cost on Newegg and as this is a gift for someone that only uses the internet for reading the news, getting 2011 technology is a waste of money. He does no video editing nor does he even watch YouTube videos. I got all of the parts for this system for under 250 dollars AR. Really can't beat that.

Ok, I've had this issue before. Most likely, not 100% though, the issue is related to your RAM. On that CPU the most AMD officially supports is 1333Mhz. The ram you have installed is 1600Mhz. I'm willing to bet that your MoBo is not reading the RAM speed properly and is not able to post as a result.

Does the MoBo have a memOK button or something similar to that (it is an ASUS feature)?

You have two alternatives to try:

* Clear the CMOS
* Get a cheap stick of 1333Mhz RAM (any size), pop that in there, hard-set the timings/freq/voltage of your 1600Mhz RAM in the BIOS, F10 to restart. Shut the system down and put in your GSkills.

I've had to do that with several mobo's in the past.

Once you have successfully posted with your GSkills, make sure that you flash to the current BIOS.

Try one stick of ram in the blue dimm, if nothing, then try the same stick in the black dimm.

Between each, be sure to turn off the PSU via the back switch, too. I even unplug the power cord for a few moment's between.

I've had blackscreen's on boot so many times, It was generally always the RAM and once I could boot in for the first time it wouldn't happen again.

It doesn't matter if you put in 2133mhz memory, 1600mhz memory, or 1066mhz memory. When the computer boots it's going to look to the SPD table of the memory and boot at much lower JEDEC approved frequency and timings. This is to assure compatibility on a wide variety of motherboard/CPU combos. Take for example my RAM rated at 2000mhz, it doesn't try to boot at 2000mhz.

It will cycle through the SPD tables until it boots successfully. Not until you manually set timings/frequency or enable XMP would it actually run at rated timings (2000mhz for me, or 1600mhz for your kit in this case.) All memory has to have JEDEC tables similar to mine. A bunch of low frequencies with the JEDEC approved voltage of 1.5v.

Staples has a dope return policy. I can return even open memory. Going there first thing in the morning. Thanks so much for the help guys.

Dopamine: Yeah, that's what I thought but wanted to give their advice my full time anyways. As long as it works in the end i'm happy. I need to buy new thermal paste though because I reseated that cpu like 4 times without putting in new paste.

For people reading this as reference. It's most likely assembly error rather than DOA parts. Rather than keep checking to see if the 24 pin is tight (because it probably is), make sure quadruple sure that your CPU, RAM, HSF, and GPU are seated correctly and have enough power from the PSU.
