955 BE 3.8Ghz superpi 17sec VS I3 2120 12 sec

Thread Starter
So I went to hwbot and see this:

955 BE default voltage should only overclock to around 3.8Ghz, which is around 17 seconds in superpi

I3 2120 only need 12 seconds with default speed

So I3 2120 truly faster than 955 that much?

Is that even fair to compare AMD with intel cpu using superpi? I heard AMD runs superpi much slower, but how can a CPU runs such a simple calculation much slower?

SuperPi is Intel optimized. Even C2D run SuperPi much faster than a an PII at 4.2ghz.

You can't compare them in Superpi, at all.

But if you use any else program, you will see SB is tons faster than PII.

Then how to compare amd with intel

Super Pi is a single threaded, memory based benchmark. If you have say a 6 core AMD cpu, you will get the same results if you disable 5 of those cores and run 1 core at the same clock speed. Intel is much better core for core. Lets hope BD bridges the gap a little.

lol, it used to be ''price vs performance''...nowadays the new i3/i5/i7 has really messed that up

Games, rendering, 3dmark Vantage, anything!

Just run games and any SB CPU will be around 30%-50% faster than the Phenom II.

Yes, the I5 and I7 version blow away Phenom II's but the SB I3 series at best matches the Phenom II. Still sad, but it does not rape the PHII in games 30-50% better.

SuperPi is Intel optimized. It's that simple. Run something that is a fair test, such as 3DMark, your favorite game, or similar.

You're right, I keep forgetting that i3 has HT instead tongue.gif

The Phenom II does need 500mhz higher clockrate to match it though.
