Nvidia Drivers: Official or Xtreme-G?

I have no idea what their differences are. Anyone care to shed some light on whether I should install Forceware 275.33 or Xtreme-G 275.27?

I'm going to assume xtreme are just modified drivers. In that case, I would not even use them. Would you trust pre modified software that has the offset chance of destroying you rig? I wouldn't take the chance and just stick to official nvidia drivers.

Yeah Xtreme-G is a tweaked driver from some tweaking site... no thank you. What was changed... who knows, I can't seem to even find a changelog confused.gif

Go nVidia official and enjoy. There is nothing wrong with the stock nVidia drivers anyways to warrant a mod on them....

Xtreme-G driver came out before the current official driver and is based off of the Quadro drivers which some report as being slightly faster in certain games [but need to be modified as stock nvidia cards cannot use Quadro drivers]. Just use the most current set of drivers

lol doh.gif

Someone on here did a test between stock nvidia and xtreme-g's. Go with the one thats fastest in the games you play.

I beg to differ. I know nothing about the drivers in question, but I've been using an assortment of modded drivers for years, to excellent results. My current rig is quite outdated, but the NGO drivers for the card netted me an 8-12% increase in various benchmarks, as opposed to the manufacturer's drivers (Acer) which are better still than the official Nvidia drivers.

Like I said, I'm not recommending anything to the OP, since I've been out of the loop for a long time, but the sweeping statement of "stick to the official drivers" is simply false and unfounded. If you get the drivers off 4chan then yeah, bad idea, but there are specialized forums out there that rival OC.net in size all devoted to modded drivers and testing them. I personally recommend NGO for Nvidia.

The Xtreme-G aren't to increase performance at all.
If someone says otherwise, he doesn't even know what the Xtreme-G even is.

Their idea is to improve Image Quality only with as little performance lose, or accidently a bit of performance gain, over the official drivers, but not something you might even notice.

What they are doing (or their main modder) is try to hard-coded some adjustments to the AI of the drivers, so you won't have to open the nvidia inspecter and do those change yourself every time.

I have never heardm of those drivers kill a rig or do anything nasty or any malwares in them.
But honestly, there is no reason to prefer them over the official drivers.
The quadro ones some say they are faster, but I think its a bit subjective per system.
Its the same as some system keeps crashing with beta drivers and some run with them smoothly without any issues.

Haha I'm pretty certain modded drivers won't do any harm to your system. With that in mind, I conducted my own test to get a rough estimation of performance differences:

Used 3dmark06 as testing ground. All settings & oc the same.
Xtreme-G driver scored lower in Every Test. However even though Nvidia scored higher in all the tests it ran, I was unable to complete the "HDR/SM3.0" test, with idrect3d errors popping up every single re-run. This did not happen in Xtreme-G's drivers. It occurred multiple times in a row & I am pretty much bummed out/given up. Would appreciate it if someone could help me fix this issue!

Disclaimer: This was just a rough, probably inaccurate test. Nvidia was not able to complete it's full run and despite being the latest drivers from both sides, versions differed (Nvidia: 275.33 | Xtreme-G: 275.27)

That said, I've decided to ignore mods and stick to the official.

Good thing to note:

I used to use Omega drivers for my ATi 9000 series card in my laptop years ago. They increased performance by at least 20% or so.
