[Halp] Keep Reference 5850 + replace cooler or RMA for a potentially crappier card?

Might have a problem here.. My 5850's fan started making a loud intolerable noise that makes me uncomfortable of running my card. It's not really hitting anything, but I believe the fan bearing or something along the lines is unstable.

I've already contacted sapphire and explained that the video card itself is perfectly fine, and asked if they could send me just a standard ATI/AMD fan assembly, but I'm sure they get a ton of messages a day and sent me this.

Sounds like hardware issue with the card, please provide a copy of the purchase receipt and send it to tech@althonmicro.com for RMA service.

Is it possible to just send the fan assembly?"
I didn't want to make it sound that I knew too much about the card, but it seems that didn't work.

Well no crap it's a hardware issue, my fans going, but I really don't want to spend $15-20 sending my card in for a crappier 5850 w/ a worse PCB and voltage regulation.. I mean my current card does 900/1300 @ 1.162v without breaking a sweat.

I'm leaning on custom cooling, but don't really want to spend much. Suggestions?

I would probably rma and get the newer card. Any 5850 can do those speeds.

Correction: Any Reference 5850 should be able to do those speeds. Non reference cards don't have voltage control and use a cheap analog PWM.

Like I said. My card is 100% fine apart from it's fan.
