Awesome Wireless Gaming Headset!

Thread Starter
Hey,

I'm in a hunt for a wireless gaming headset (for PC) and would like some ideas and recommendations.. These are the things I want from the headset

  1. Under £150 ($250)
  2. Awesome sound quality
  3. Preferably not 2.4GHz (I have a lot of wireless devices in that range)
  4. Solid build quality
  5. Removable batteries
  6. come with a stand?

I know there are brands which specifically do gaming peripherals (and I don't know them all), so any recommendations would be appropriated.

So far I have my mind over these:

Logitech G930
  1. £130 at Amazon
  2. 2-year RMA (+)
  3. Great sound quality (+)
  4. Solid build (+)
  5. No stand (+)
  6. Rechargeable (no AA or removable batteries) (-)
  7. 2.4 GHz (likely interference with my other stuff) (-)

Creative Sound Blaster Gaming Wireless Headset
  1. £115 at Play.com
  2. 1-year awful creative RMA (-)
  3. THX Certified (+)
  4. Average build quality (-)
  5. No stand (-)
  6. AA Batteries (+)
  7. 2.4 GHz (-)
  8. Average Range (-)
  9. It's Creative (-)

Astro A40 Wireless
  1. damn expensive, £215 at Astro
  2. 2-year RMA
  3. Great sound quality
  4. No stand
  5. AA
  6. Good Range
  7. 5.8 GHz Wireless (no interference)
  8. only optical input (no USB - no use for laptops)

Any ideas? Other Recommendations?
Thanks in advance

It's a general consensus here to not recommend any headsets, or anything to do with gaming. Let alone wireless. None of the ones you listed are going to have "awesome" sound quality, and all are most likely going to be considerably more expensive than they're worth.

However, unlike most other topics, it's hard to recommend something else. If you're really set on getting a wireless headset, I'd recommend the G930. I've owned the G35 (its wired counterpart), and I think it should satisfy your needs. I can't tell you if it'll have interference, but if it does you can just RMA it.

If that doesn't work out, try the Creative. If anything, Creative has experience with sound.

I would stay away from the Astro, as I have a lot of doubt about their audio quality. Every Astro headset I've come into contact with has been hollow sounding and severely overpriced, even for a gaming headset. If the Creative and Logitech don't work out, I'd continue looking elsewhere.

Thanks,

Can you recommend me some headset brands that you've had good experience with?

Headsets? Not really. In terms of headphones, there are many great brands. Grados, Audio Technica, Sennheiser, Koss, and Beyerdynamic to name a few. Those companies make most of the headphones recommended in these forums. It's almost always a good idea to get a pair of headphones plus a seperate mic, as opposed to getting a headset. If you can, look at some of the wireless Sennheisers and see if any of those fit your bill.

Not a bad idea...

The Sennheiser RS-180 looks very impressive but also very expensive. I don't think I need that much of quality (Kleer wireless and stuff) ... RS-170 is also expensive and RS-160 doesn't have the surround features. Any other headphone brands?

Also now can you recommend me headphones?

Wireless still? No, sorry, I really don't have any experience. You can check all the brands I listed for wireless options, but beyond that I really can't help much.

Yap I need wireless because I move a lot and don't wanna put off/on the headset every time I move.

Thanks, I'll look into those.

I have the RS 180 for gaming only, and they sound great. The new tech used in this headphones make it sound really great and clear. Had some wireless mid range phillips before, and the RS 180 are in a totally different league. I also have an wired Audio Technica AD700 coming, wish I had it now to compare, but I would say for sound the RS 180 an 8.5/10 and the AD a 10/10, 10 meaning the best sound you can get within this price range.
