What about the XS or the 30D

Build quality and performance the 30D probably wins, but the XS might win on image quality.

Build quality and ergonomics the 30D wins hands down. The XS does have two more MP and slightly better image quality, but the 30D is still a better more full featured camera.

So im guessing the 20D would beat out the XS also?

I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend the XS.

It's a newer camera with better image sensor and with more "beginner friendly" features like Live View. Another reason for me to get the XS over 20D/30D is because it's a newer model, meaning it's easier to find a used, low mileage body out there than it is with the 20D/30D.

In my opinion, the xxD body ergonomics are superior by far to the Rebels, but if you haven't been "spoiled" yet like I have, I doubt you'd complain about the ergonomics of the XS smile.gif
