I'm going to wait until all of these packs are announced, then pre-order in October.
I don't want to miss out on anything.

Except it's finished far before release day (unlike Vietnam). Something you wouldn't condone if it were pulled by any other developer/publisher.

It's pretty ironic that everyone praises CDProjekt for treating their PC customers right, and then everyone proceeds to hop on the "EA's dedicated nutsack masseuse" bandwagon just because this day-one paid DLC is for BF3.

This is my thoughts exactly for the past few days, but after 14hrs of studying and 5hrs of exams filling my memory and dumping it shortly after , I'm starting to wonder...

Theory 1
What if DICE had been working on the Karkland DLC for later release as an expansion and all guys and gals at DICE pulled double-shifts to finish it for us so we could enjoy it on release day?

And of course EA simply taking advantage of this and including it in the pre-order as an incentive. If this were the case, DICE is awesome and EA is, well.. still EA.

Of course we will never really know the truth, unless one you guys know anyone at DICE or EA who can shed some light on the matter.

Theory 2
What if the costs of producing the game was higher than expected and they needed to cut out content, a.k.a the Karkland Expansion, to be able to release the game at $60 and then call the rest DLC for $10. As opposed to charging $70 for the full game upon release, from a marketing perspective it would make sense for EA to break up the game and has the added bonuses of giving them something to offer as a pre-order incentive.

^ Not Sarcasm

PS: I realized EA said Karkland DLC is not day 1 release after typing all this, so enjoy the fiction above, or propaganda, whichever you prefer.

yeah, boycott worked, and I really think that this is for the better. Now I see very little wrong with pre-ordering vs. not. I for one, will pre-order regardless, because I think that this is gonna sell out at my local store.

Agreed, I will pre-order when EA is done with their NOT all exclusive content pre-order stuff.

No candy for you!! Not till' you fix my BF3!!!!

Perhaps, but that does not change the legitimacy of the boycott against the all exclusive weapons pre-order EA introduced into BF3.

you do realize that the DLC isnt Day 1. It wont be out til months after the game is out.

Furthermore, the Back to Karkand DLC is still available for free to those who pre-order the game, but won’t be released at launch on October 25, rather, Back to Karkand will be released later this year. If you pre-order the game, you’ll get it for free, otherwise, you’ll have to pony up. The Back to Karkand package is developed by a separate team — the same team that worked on the Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion.
hurrah for having all the information about the subject you are talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't so much a boycott, but more a large organized effort to make our complaints about BF3 known to the higher-ups, and it sure worked.
