[PCgamer] EA : “we’d like to be the worldwide leader in digital publishing" - Page 2

I think EA is up against too much of an established base. This situation is similar to iTunes, sure there are tons of music and content distributors, but so many people have invested a lot into iTunes to not use that program. Sure, we could use more than one program but I think people want all of their things in one place and not one game here one game there etc.

EA will have to undercut steam on prices by a fair bit to gain any kind of marketshare. So many people know the horrors of using EADM and EA's DRM (can't escape that anywhere but pirated).

I believe EA has the market power to threaten Steam. Valve vs. EA is no brainer who will win. This will be interesting. Competition always good.
And they improved their rep how? Buying Bioware and pretty much dumbing down games for them to be available to wider audience? It's not really how you improve your rep among pc gamers. No hate intended, it's just how I see it.

I have a suspicion the problem with Crysis 2 is that EA were planning to offer it at a reduced price on Origin and Valve objected. Which, to be honest, isn't the business of Valve to object.
I believe they have already announced that some games will be Origin exclusive, like Star Wars: The Old Republic.

If EA never tries it... they will never succeed. They have to try if they want to be the leader...
They may fail... but what is the old saying?
"Reach for the stars... and you may find yourself on the moon."
They may not beat Steam... or even come close... but if they can carve their own niche in the digital distribution market, and make more money...
more power to them.

Imagine EA pouring more money into DICE and Crytek and Bioware for PC games. Might get some real advances of they see profits in their own digital distribution.
(or they may just line their own exec pockets.. i dunno)

I'm sure you'd like to.

Good luck with that.

I'd like EA to die and go away.

Unfortunately it is an imperfect world and we seldom get exactly what we want.

Hopefully this is a sign that EA along with Valve will lead the PC gaming Industry to the top!

I don't agree with some of the things EA are doing at the moment, but hopefully they start listening to their PC customers more.

Yeah, 'cause who wants to play any EA games...

It's like if EA would go compete facebook.
It will fail and I hope they'll understand that every gamer here has Steam and no one wants an other crap program to open on windows boot.
