[PCgamer] EA : “we’d like to be the worldwide leader in digital publishing" - Page 9

Oh EAs a world-wide leader, but it's not for digital publishing - it's for most corporate asshats hired per-capita in the industry.

Well I highly doubt that they will be on top, Steam will prolly always have that. But if this whole Origin thing does take off, they def could be a second choice.....variety is the spice of life

All I want is to have all my games on one service. I don't trust EA to handle that and Steam has done a good job thus far.

good enough to not have the biggest game of 2011 not on its list. Battlefield 3, how good is a platform if it doesnt have the games you want. Dont blame EA, everyone else is selling BF3 except steam.

Who backed Blu-Ray again? O yea Sony and their media empire.

Would be a "ok" comparison if you put EA in Sony's place. Established norms can be overtaken. Give the people at Netscape a call. Whatever happened to them anyway?
I think you both missed the point. I was suggesting that EA is like HD-DVD had HD-DVD tried to enter the HD race 10yr after Blu-ray.

Steam has been around forever and has already developed into a social network of gamers. Forcing end-users to either choose sides or save room for both formats on the same machine at this point (after Steam has already garnered a HUGE following) is disappointing.

Most likely, Crytek signed an agreement with EA’s Origin service (EA would have sweetened the pot as well) giving them exclusive rights to things whether it be DLC or whatever and Valve’s conditions would have been for developers to not give other services exclusivity on anything.

i understood what you were trying to say. That was the reason i threw in the Netscape comment. But you comments have contain no logic. That is like saying shame on msn messenger for being created when AIM was already around with huge user base or lets not forget facebook for being created when Myspace was still around.

Just becaus a company has established themselves as a force in a market does not mean it cannot be overtaken by a new entrant. Beauty of competition. If Steam wants to retain their user base and market share they will have to step up to the plate with something appealing to keep us around.

Let me pay €10 a month and give me access to EA's entire catalogue, past, present and future. That's how you win me over...

This truely shows how greedy EA is. Hey, we're already the leader in something so that means we should be the leader in other things! Their entire attitude will hopefully be the death of them. Valve deserves this title far more than EA ever will.

If Origins actually beat Steam I could see EA adding some "subscription" to it that allows people to purchase games earlier or "no ads", just to get more money for their greedy-selfs. It's all they do, add fees to everything they possibly can. Release a game, profit a ton, then release 10 mini-DLCs that all the fanboys will buy that add a whole 2 hours of gameplay content for half of the game's original price.

EA and Activision will destroy the gaming market on PCs. All EA is doing is trying to split up the PC gaming market, the only games people will buy on Origins is the exclusive ones. The fact they make them exclusives just shows how desperate and low-ball they really are. Making them exclusive is NOT going to make people switch to Origins, it's just going to make people hate it more. All they do is think about money, and profits and never once consider what the fans actually like/want.

crysis 2 dlc is all handled in game.

Valves conditions are most likely you need to offer it for sale on steam also. As it was a recent change in rules.

Other games such as dragon age 2 feature dlc not for sale on steam.

But Steam just announced the Free to play games where you buy all that DLC from steam, not from the game. Which would be why Steam just recently revised the rules, and Crysis 2 was removed.

Games and DLC already released would be grandfathered in, otherwise steam would have to remove way to much content, but moving forward devs would know they had to include Steam DLC availability, further increase Steams dominance in the online retail segment.
