So I recently upgraded my build (old build) because of Intel's and AMD's latest EPP program. Yay!

Previous Build
88465542.jpg

Most of the parts were handed to me by aznofazns. Full System Specs

Things I am adding/changing out in the new upgrade.
  • Xigmatek 120mm fan (rated 89.45 CFM) added onto CPU cooler (link)
  • Xigmatek 140mm case fan to swap out with blue LED Lian Li intake fan (link)
  • Thermax Spire Eclipse II (link)
  • Asus Rampage III Formula (link, purchased from xToaDx)
  • 3x2gb G.Skill Pi DDR3 1600 (link)
  • Intel i7 970 (link)
  • AMD Radeon HD 6950 Engineering Sample (link, unlocked 6970 shaders)
  • Lian Li Bezel (link)
  • Sycthe KM02-BK Fan Controller (link)

Credit to aznofazns for taking most of the pictures (he recently got a Canon t1i, his first DSLR)

Now for the build log!

In the socket

img0771s.jpg
We were testing the BlueFrost paste that came with it. It sucks. So this is us in our best attempt to clean it.

img0774z.jpg
aznofazn's really bad application

img0778af.jpg
img0779l.jpg
img0780xm.jpg
Alcohol for cleaning!

Back mounting plate

img0792p.jpg
Fan controllers (yes.. I have a silver one because I managed to find it brand new for $12, anyone want to trade for a black one?)

img0793c.jpg
New DVD bezel to stealth the drive... CABLES ON THE RIGHT SIDE?

img0794wk.jpg
Hideous..

img0799b.jpg
So after a couple of days, with weird temps, we took it off to see how our application was.... and as you can see it was terribad. I blame aznofazns
img0800ti.jpg
grody...

img0801e.jpg
So we cleaned it up, and this time I myself filled in the gaps of the crevices, and went with a square method. No idea how it applied. Temperatures are a little better. I'm out of TX-2 paste so I need to get some more if I want to check the application

img0803of.jpg
Finally done. I also took out the HDD cage cause it was blocking a lot of air flow, and looked weird. I moved the HDD into the 5.25 drive bay. Possibly planning to stick a reservoir there if/when I get water cooling. I forgot to take a picture of behind the motherboard. Looks better though... How's the cable management otherwise?

img0804kd.jpg
I need to start sleeving..

Fan controllers with new intake fan. The old blue Lian Li 140mm was pretty, but too obnoxiously bright IMO. Got the smokey white Xigmatek instead.

Macbook (2006), Dell U2311H (currently borrowing's aznofazn's monitor since he is out of town =]), acer P236H (it's gross), and Sager NP2092

My unlocked 6950

My folding card

cpuze.jpg
quick OC to 4.1ghz. Going to shoot for higher.

My future plans is to upgrade PSU to something more powerful to CrossFire and to also have fully modular cables for sleeving. Then after that will be case mods.cool.gif

Thanks for viewing! Let me know what you think!
