Is the HDD screwed in? I can't simply pull it out, correct?

Probably, I can't really tell from that pic (I had an older XPS400 that used plastic brackets so you never know).
Open up your case and take a look, post some pics etc

Yeah, just relocate the hard drive. It doesn't even need to mount into the designed mounting holes/slots, just put it wherever it fits such that it's not in the way of your card. I had a HDD just leaning against the inside of my case for a while because my old 1950pro was way too long for my case at the time.

I thought about doing this, as there is an empty slot for an extra DVD drive in my case, but I was worried that the HDD would get damaged somehow. If I have an extra HDD slot I'll put it there.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I'd just avoid the trouble and get a new case, doesn't have to be expensive.

Note that I didn't take this picture, I found it.

From the edge of the case to the edge of the hard drive, is 9 inches. The video card I want to get is over 10 inches. Is this going to be a problem?
OK, you're in the same boat, I used to be in. I had about 9 inches of space to fit my former 6950, 10.5inches. I had to rip out, and I mean RIP out the back side of my hard drive cage, to actually fit that card in there. Just be prepared for some work, which may cause you to sweat a bit, heheh.

If you don't wanna have to do a bit of grueling work, get a shorter card. Most likely a non-reference design.
