My HDD is dead on my system. I need a new one. What kind of SSD/HDD should I get for my HP Compaq dc5100 SFF? (http://www.overclock.net/system.php?i=77468)

For more information about my system, visit:

If you don't want/feel like going to sites, here's some information below:

System HDD uses: SATA Data (2 slots)
Power Supply: SATA Power, IDE/Standard Power, Floppy Power

how much storage space do you use? for HDD, i would go with a western digital Caviar black for decent performance (or Scorpio Black if you want 2.5")

as for SSD, i have had good luck with Crucial's, they are fairly inexpensive too.

although having Sata III connections is what is going to help the most, but I am guessing you dont with an older machine...

What do you mean SATA III connections?

I have another question, I have a used laptop SATA HDD. Does it still work with this desktop or other desktops?

there are different types of Sata connections, all of which use the same cable. Sata II is 3 Gb/S, Sata III is 6 Gb/S... basically twice as fast. but your motherboard has to have that, and if it wasnt made in the past year... it wont.

laptop HDD's will work just fine, especially for SFF builds. they usually produce less heat as well.

I believe the build is between 2004-2007. I'm unsure.

Hmmm. Okay. At least it's compatible.
