Which do you think I should go with?

If I were to get the 6970's, I would get the MSI Lightning's.

Two PCIe slots will always be faster than one, go with the two 6970s. 6990s also have limited OC headroom because of heat and power.

Incorrect, the 6990 has 2 GPU's and will be faster than 2 x 6970's. Eye running 2 cards some games scale on 20-30% better. The 6990 does not use AOL the hwndwith also.

2 x 6970 wins

unless you're thinking about putting 2x6990s together somewhere down the road?

With 2 6970 you would have more power phases available as opposed to a single 6990 meaning you would actually get more performance from the 2 single cards and more chance of much better overclock on the 6970 due to more having more Vreg'.
