That's some good misinformation there.

The two card setup would be better if you have the room for it. 6990 can be an outstanding card when it's waterblocked though, it's really preference. 6990s contain higher quality 6970s too if I remember correctly.

Under the hood, the Radeon HD 6990 is essentially a pair of underclocked Radeon HD 6970 GPUs on top of a massive PCB. This is the same of what we found with the Radeon HD 5970 which featured a pair of HD 5870 GPUs operating at slightly lower frequencies.

This is a matter of taste.

If you want a powerful system comparable to most SLI set-ups that runs off of a Micro-ATX single PCI express board in a smaller case, then the HD 6990 is your choice.

If you have no such form factor limitations, then you might was well get two cards in crossfire.

Two 6970 lightnings is what I would go for over a 6990....

6990's are out of stock pretty much everywhere.

Anyone know where I can even get one?

Everywhere I checked is out of stock. You are going to need to wait 1-2 weeks.

Honestly, it depends on your future plans.

I would say 6970x2 because speculation says that the 7000 series will be out by years end. They would easily hold you off until then.

Unless you plan to go crossfire or get eyefinity, go with the 6970s. They will out perform a 6990, and be cheaper as well.

My 6990 sounded like a leaf blower when playing BFBC2 until I got it watercooled. I still regret not going 6970x2.

Go for the 6970's, unless you have some need for massive gpu computational power.

You have a watercooled 6990, And would rather have 2 6970's on air Overclock that 6990
Another thing is is easier and cheaper to watercool a 6990
