[CPCT/OBR] Video: AMD FX under LN2 + 4-Way SLI & FX In ET6 - Page 5

I dont care if AMD can pull 5.5ghz until they are alot closer or passing intel on the performance per MHZ game. I still think 6cores+ will be a waste for us GAMERS.
And since im a gamer more than anything else thats MY main concern.

I dont know if it has 1GHZ turbo can it really be around 3.5-3.8 stock? I mean really a 4.8GHZ turbo stock. I just dont buy it AMD will have to jump two gens to match SB and 3 to beat it like that. Would not surprise me at all if the stock clocks are in the 2.8-3.0 range with a turbo like that.

Besides a stock mhz like that is more than adequate to run normal tasks. I am folding right now with one thread open and running my tasks on my pc just fine. It doesn't take 3.x ghz across 4 cores to do simple tasks so why chew up the V.

You have to keep in mind this is a COMPLETELY NEW architecture, you really can't base performance on K10 and K10.5 architectures. So what that means is, we will never know the performance until it is released, I advise everyone to read these threads with a grain of salt.

Wait for BD official benches/release, then complain about BD cores being useless. In that order.

People seem to have a hard time understanding this, but look at it this way.

You've got 8 core Bulldozer. Your playing Black Ops, the game has 2 cores dedicated. To save time since you got free cores, you decide to encode couple of Blu Ray movies, the process takes 5 hours and the program has 4 cores dedicated. You still got free cores and you can save even more time by finally ripping all your Metallica CD's.

Your can still run your game smooth as a butter. This is one of the reasons why AMD and Intel will keep on making, dual and quad cores. For most users, they provide them with much more than enough processing power. For heavy workstations, more cores can be required.

Over four cores will be completely useless for the average gamers.

5.5Ghz on LN2? Not impressed at all. Of course it a ES chip, but I expected a bit better. Bleh, whatever.

How could you say something like that.

You'd be hard pressed to get that i7 920 over 5.5GHz on ln2....

Bulldozer is likely to have a cold bug as well, as OBR stated he came across one.

Plus this does not give us any indication of how it performs at 5.5GHz, other than that all 8 cores can run 5.5GHz on 3dmark11 under LN2.

On top of all that....there is 8 physical cores on the chip. With all the possible variances in core, and this being an ES, i'd say thats pretty impressive.

I could care less about ln2 overclocks. I want to see the overclock that people with standard aftermarket cooling, such as a hyper 212+, will be able to achieve at reasonable temperatures. People were able to reach 7 ghz and higher on netburst chips, but those numbers are unreasonable for 99.99999% of people, and completely useless for purposes other than benching.

I agree, I was going to post something similar. But every time a new line of CPU's comes out for Intel or AMD a review pops up with a Ln2 bench. When phenom II came out the constant Ln2 news posts on OCN drove me absolutely insane because it attracted a swarm of mindless zombies that actually thought the chips overclockability on a cooling method they would never EVER use would benefit them.
