top of the line Radeon HD 7000 parts should be able to deliver the same performance that is now offered by dual-GPU solutions.
Do they say what dual-GPU solutions they mean? They could be referring to two 6450s in Crossfire for all we know.

Well it was said at AMD's conference so it is probably true...however, my guess this is will be small die stuff from AMD. Something like a Radeon 7770 this year and the 7970 sometime Q1/Q2 next year.

Since Nvidia releases big dies first the 600 series will likely be next year.

If this can be confirmed and if there is additional details regarding the Dual-GPU variant equivalent to the 6990 I may skip on the IOC/Overhaul Phase involving 6990's.

I value my money more than my graphics....

A 6850 or 6870 will be good enough to handle almost any game in 1080p...

$160 - $220 Is the max I'd spend on a Video Card, EVER!

same thing happened with GTX 295 > 480
and
4870x2 > 5870

Almost the same performance in a single GPU next gen card.

Fab proccess went from 55nm > 40 nm

now we are moving from 40 > 28nm

So yeah its entirely possible.

Anyways, AMD's architecture looks like it's going to be taking a pretty big change. Combined with the 30% smaller manufacturing process, we should see a pretty big improvement over the 6000 series, much more so than 6xxx vs 5xxx.

I'm sure Nvidia has some changes up its sleeve as well. They'd better stop overpricing their cards though, or they're not going to be getting my business.

You also have to remember that the 5XXX/6XXX are just refinements of the architectures which build upon the existing Switched Hub architecture introduced with the 4XXX series. The 4XXX series brought in a switched hub architecture compared to the ring bus architecture previously utilized. If the WCCF Tech pictures are accurate we can see a transition from a Switched Hub architecture to a brand new architecture that I cannot identify as of yet.
