775 cpu heatsink install issue.

Thread Starter
Hey guys, first time installing a cpu/heatsink. My issue is that when I place the cpu cooler in the 4 pin holes and press down, it seems to be locked in place but I can still move the cooler up and down?

Like its not touching the cpu beneath it but its in the holes? it wiggles up and down freelly.

Can someone tell me what im doing wrong?

I started the PC and cpu temp climbed to 80degreec C in about 10seconds.

to install, first since you already stuck it on, clean of all the thermal paste from the CPU, and heatsink, then apply half a grain of rice worth of TIM on the CPU in the middle,

Intel heatsink install instructions:

1: turn all the push pins so that the arrow is not pointing at the shroud, (in the lock position)

2: line up the holes

3: push firmly on the first pin until you hear a click, then go diagonal from it and push down that one until you hear a click.

4: repeat for the next 2 pins

5: plug in your 4 pin PWM connector

6: push the power cable away from the blades of the fan

if you need some new Thermal Interface Material (TIM) than get some Arctic silver, or OCZ freeze

if installed correctly, idle temps around 56 degrees or lower, and the heatsink should not be able to wiggle

Well I tried again but I can only get 2 of the pins to go in, the other two do not seem to budge. Its making semi contact as at start up the temp is 39 and then starts to increase instead of 80 but no all pins are down.
