I'd consider that book. I'm actually going to see if there's anything similar at my library tomorrow (I'm cheap smile.gif).

Same, but I'm not good with library books, I never turn them in on time. So I might buy it. But I'm starting to not know what to do with my life. D:

I run a small computer business from my home as a hobby/ night job (see sig ).. It's definitely been a learning experience and a valuable one at that. I'm really enjoying it and love being able to build 2 or 3 rigs a week and getting experience with hardware I would have had the chance to use before..

Just take it slow and have everything well planned out.. run through every possible situation with a friend and come up with ways to properly deal with the issue. This has saved me quite a few headaches.

It's definitely something to have some fun with.. glhf

Until they figure out a way to fix stupid, I'm staying out of the repair industry....

Charge under current big box rates because you are a student thinking about IT.
If you stress student, people will be nicer if you can't fix right away.
Get references and don't just rely on craigslist.
Post up some flyers or get in online yellow pages.
Get free business cards.
If it works out, get a business license.
Get insurance so you don't get sued.
Do an LLC at the same time.
Come up with a good business name.
Hire other people to do the work.

Personally, I would suggest that you get work experience at a local pc repair shop. See how you like it, and see how you do, and finally see if it's something you'd want to make a living off of after you've done all of that.

I work part time at Geek Squad. Overall I enjoy it but customers can be a pain. Some pay you once for a mundane repair and then expect unlimited support. You have to be patient. I try to educate people about why their computer is broken but most don't care. It's really annoying.
