The feature on the boards work, but you won't know if it will be stable or not. 50/50 chance you will or will not have a stable dual to quad or quad to six and so on and so forth.

With the 1090T it comes running stock with only 4 cores active. You can use the button to unlock the other 2 cores or go into the bios and hard set it to keep them unlocked. Also there is a splash screen that pop's up when I start the computer with the ASUS ROG symbol and all I have to do is hit the # 4 button and it will set all 6 core to active. For me the core unlocker button is useless.

I don't have a physical "switch" on my motherboard ,however, the bios does have the Asus Core Unlocker. I have the AMD x3 720 and tried the core unlocker. Windows would not boot and I tried upping voltage but the 4th core was unstable. So I turned it off and just overclocked my cpu. This is my mentality towards the core unlocker: Why not try it? If it doesn't work. No harm done. Just turn it off and OC.
