Computer slow

Thread Starter
Common question but I think something is wrong. Specs are below\/. My computer starts up fast, about 10 seconds until CPU is idle on desktop. Everything hangs, Firefox constantly hangs while opening pages, refreshing pages and so on. Most of the time Facebook doesn't completely load. Itunes hangs just about every time I click something. I have MSE for anti virus, did a scan and nothings wrong. Right now All that is open is Firefox, In the taskbar there is volume, networking, MSE, RDM+, Realtek audio manager, Sidebar, MSI Afterburner, and MSI OSD. Playing Oblivion I can run everything 100% and there is no lag what so ever.
Any help is appreciated!

If anything needs upgraded I'm probably just going to sell this PC and buy a laptop.

Try uninstalling an re-installing any software that hangs or runs slow. Is there plenty of free HDD space (at least 5 gigs). If not, then free some up so you have at least 5 gigs, but with 1 TB of space, i doubt you have that much junk on your drive. If all else fails, you can just re-install windows?

313 gb free, Reinstall of OS is last resort, I'll try and reinstall Firefox.

Firefox reinstall did next to nothing, just looks cool now smile.gif

hmm...

i got it!

1. delete itunes.

kidding, that is indeed strange. try downloading CCleaner and run it, also, run the registry cleaner too, also, try downloading another free antivirus, AVG or Avast, and see if that yields results.

how can i forget antimalwarebytes! run those 3 programs and you're bound to find the problem!

CCleaner deleted about 250 MB, 189 registry errors,

On another note, I noticed my hard drive is almost always at 100% usage on my drives meter(on the sidebar).

Vista?! Aargh! The horror!

Your problem does sound really odd, and everyone else's suggestions sound spot on. Change your antivirus - go for something reputable with a 30 day trial; I'd recommend Nod32.

At the same time, I can't help thinking Vista is the culprit somehow.

If it will save you cash on your next upgrade/laptop, and none of the suggestions here work, then go and get Win7.

I would try steer you away from the laptop and rather just upgrade the PC, but that's an argument for another thread... smile.gif

I made another thread about going to windows 7 smile.gif
I can end the laptop argument here, all I do is music and web browsing with an occasional game. I would use the laptop in my car, can't really put my big desktop in my car.
