The best keyboard on the market? - Page 2

Go to frys electronics or someplace like it and you can try out a whole bunch of rubber dome boards the one by my house has probably around 40 boards to try.

Whats this idea about mechanical keyboards?

And is OP even here anymore...

Dude, go mechanical. I made the switch just last week from my G15 and OMG such a big difference! I was really skeptical about it, but glad I did. All that media stuff and LCD screen really isn't necessary. I am getting along just fine with it. I actually got a lot of headache from the LCD screen since not many games that I played were compatible with it. Plus if you can touch type, it makes your fingers uber happy lol. But if you are deadset on sticking with the media/lcd stuff, I would say a G19, that was what I was about to upgrade to (my G15 started to not register my keystrokes and lag behind my typing).

I won't say that I agree with him or that I'd choose like him, but you guys can't know what he appreciates the most. If you have a suggestion, please contribute, if not then don't.

That said, OP if you really want those features and have a KB in mind that has them, then just go for it.
You say features, I say gimmicks...but to each his own I suppose.

OP, I say if you're not buying a mechanical keyboard, just go to Newegg and buy a keyboard in the $20 price range that has a layout you prefer. It will feel the same as all of the expensive Logitech gaming keyboards, just without the "features" (gimmicks...).

I do the same thing. I always push the keys all the way down. Cherry MX Black switches are Linear and don't have a bump that tells you when you activated the switch, so you can just push them all the way down like a normal keyboard, but they still feel a lot better to type on than a normal keyboard.

I actually like my mechanical board because the keys are harder to press. I don't make as many mistakes in RTS games as I used to. Sometimes I would accidentally press the key one too many times and accidentally make one more unit than I wanted to, for example.

My opinion is that you haven't committed a crime by disliking mechanicals, however you have committed a crime by buying keyboards such as the G19. Logitech takes a $20 keyboard, and adds a tiny LCD screen and some media controls, and charges $170 for it! It's simply ridiculous! It's a $20 keyboard that won't last very long at all, while mechanical keyboards are built much better and last years and years.

If you want to buy another $170 keyboard again in 3 years, go ahead and buy another Logitech ripoff keyboard, otherwise go for a $20 cheapo keyboard and buy another $20 cheapo keyboard in 3 years, or buy a mechanical keyboard that will actually last a long time.

Evidence that Logitech keyboards don't last:

I don't think vikingsteve has actually tried a mechanical keyboard and if he did he probably only tried blues (he said they were loud).

In which case, I can understand if he didn't like the blues. Nothing wrong with that. It's just a shame that he's already made up his mind that he hates mechanical keyboards all together.

Your best bet is to probably just stick with the logitech series. I love logitech products for the most part, but their keyboards are just way too over the top and gimmicky.

The feel would be a personal opinion.

Some people like the way glocks feel and other people can't stand them. It seems there's a deal on this site where mechanical keyboards are like Jesus and anything else is worth no more than $3 and should burn in a fire and so should the person who uses it.

Never used it. Only thing that got me interested was the fact that it was also LCD and in color. But again, since I wasn't able to find much LCD support with my games, it felt like a waste of space as a keyboard. I never use macros when I game (EQ, WoW, Rift, BlOps, BFBC2, SC2), nothing the top row of numbers weren't able to do. The onlything I used on the media part of my G15 was the pause/play for Zune software. Think the G19 runs about $200, maybe a little less now. But you may want to wait a while for a next gen LCD keyboard of the G19's caliber/fancieness since I think its been out for a couple years. With the newer Logitech keyboards with LCDs that came out recently, I don't know if this will affect a newer version of the G19 or not. I could have sword I saw another keyboard by another company that had an LCD screen, not sure what brand though, and it may have just been media information.

As an alternative, you may want to look into razer keyboards. I've used my buddies (not sure which one it is) and it seemed nice enough. I liked it better than my G15 (subtle/lights up, so easy night gaming if you can't touch type). Depending on what games you play, maybe look into a gaming pad? Logitech G13 (??? I think thats what it is?) and just invest in a cheap keyboard that you don't loose sleep over if you have to replace it due to malfunction. Not sure on all of the G13's specs though, as far as I know, its the same as the G15 LCD wise though.

If you like the G510 based from your expreince on the G15, then it would be a small improvement/upgrade.

If you want a huge improvement/upgrade, then a mechincal keyboard like the Ione Xarmor U9BL-S (brown switch) would be a nice. Along with the fact it has backlit keys. If you want a something LCD like logitech, then the logitech G19 would be a good pairing.
