Sabertooth p67 and Many CPU Cooling Fails

Hey all,

I am creating my first rig ever right now and failing miserably with cooling.

Here are my items thus far:

EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 570 HD w/Display-Port 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
NZXT Phantom White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast Computer Case
Western Digital 1TB 5400 RPM 64MB (Slow I know but cheap till a good one is on sale)
Thermaltake Black Widow 850W ATX 12V v2.3
ASUS Sabertooth p67
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB)
Intel Core i7 3.4 Ghz(Not OCed yet since it isn't built yet)

And here is where I failed with two different fans so far.

I tried the Zalman 9500 and the mount did not fit the case and I just ordered 212+ which I had to try to cancel before it was too late because if I installed it it would be pushing up against the ram...

What type of fan can fit in a sabertooth p67 and not be up tight against the ram? I am very new to this and am looking for a semi cheap yet still good(ie not stock) fan.

I would be indebted to you if you can help me out with my first attempt at a rig. Someone has had to have gone through what I am going through now with cooling of a sabertooth p67.

Thanks in advanced!! smile.gif

Anyone know if the ZALMAN CNPS9900MAX-B fit's on the Sabertooth p67 and fits without blocking ram?

I've had this exact issue. With all four DIMM slots used you have NO chance of fitting any large air coolers on the Sabertooth with that memory. You'll either have to remove the heatsink from the first Vengeance stick (not recommended) or go with something like a Corsair H50/60/70.

I currently have a Hyper 212 and Vengeance RAM but only in slot 2 and 4 so it fits ok. Problem is I want better performance than the Hyper 212 can give so I had to switch to the H60 for my new build (because none of the great air-coolers will fit over Vengeance heatspreaders)....

I would recommend a Corsair Hydro Series cooler, the model depends of you... Don't forget the H100 is or will be released soon.

+1 for corsair H70, H70 or H100.

I saw someone else with the 212+ who took a picture of him fitting it with all 4 ram, but he said they were pushing up against each other.

Glad I am not going crazy and only person to experience this, then again I am disappointed anyone needs to figure this out. So you did switch over the H60? How did that work out? Are h60s better than normal stuff like the zalman 9900(Which I still am curious if that one actually fits and mounts correctly)

Either way thank you both for your replies! They are both every helpful smile.gif

The Sabertooth P67 works best with a downward blowing cooler. I'm using the Noctua NH-C12P SE14 with excellent results.

I have a Zalman 9900 Max, it fits the P67 Sabertooth fine

Its only fits blowing left or right, not up or down though

But the Noctua NH series is huge. Doesn't that take up a ram spot or 2?

Fitting left and right works fine because their is an exhaust fan there for the case. Does the Zalman 9900 Max work good for you? I had horrid luck with mouthing the Zalman 9500 just because of the way things mounted.

Thank you again for your help guys.

You can fit shorter RAM sticks under the Hyper 212 but the Vengeance sticks are just too tall. The Hyper 212 just barely clears the second DIMM.

As for a downward blowing HSF, thats not necessary if you purchase a 50mm fan to blow down in the thermal armor. Looks cooler too...
