Many games can use dual/quad cores now? - Page 5

As an engineer, I use FEA software (Finite Element Analysis). Software like this and rendering softare, like Maya or Lightwave or 3DSMax, make FULL use of as many cores as you have. In its simplicity, FEA software calculates stress in a structure with given loads and constraints applied, this uses HEAVY computing!! So you can set the software up to make full use of all cores... Games tho, I doubt so much, there's no "real" need to yet, as polygon counts get higher (or if the technology grows into a voxel type rendering!! ) games WILL start making use of all cores...

Also, multiple cores are being used A LOT in the robotics field. Since we're not going to see a big growth in CPU "speed", as the "speed" is not really important, we'll see a huge growth in number of cores. Robotics companies are using multi-cores for example in this way:
Core 1: Master communication processor
Core 2: Handling Vision only
Core 3: Handling all other sensors
Core 4: Handling motion and movements

They also use multiple ram banks... What this does in the robotics field is allows the robots to read, interpret, and react DIFFERENT actions simultaneously... Video games require a fraction of the computing power required by FEA, Rendering, and Robotics... Anyway, that's my input, sorry to get a little off topic lol

BFBC2, BF3 and The Witcher 2 need good quads to play well.
