Pretty good chance your overvolting your chip by using offset voltage. Try switching to manual. When you do you need to turn off eist, spread spectrum, and all of the c-states. Then you will have one fixed voltage. You can only overclock so much with those things on. Your chip dosent know how much voltage to ask for at that freq so it asks for to much or to little. Set your pll to 1.85 and turn your cpu current up to about 120%

Here is a system I built for someone a few weeks ago.

Its a 2600k I know but HT is on, and it does 5ghz on 1.38v took me about 2 hours to dail it in. Its in a Asus P8Z68 Pro.

And 4.5 on 1.26v

Why does the GFlops look so low? is it HT?

I couldn't get my Q6600 stable at 3.0~ not for too long. A BSOD would happen eventually~ I've always needed too much voltage, life has just been frustrating with it so far.

I own an i5 2500k. I've done all I can to get stability above 4.5ghz but I can't ever achieve it without using offset voltage. Which always feels like it's using more voltage than it needs to to get the job done, but maybe it isn't. Maybe it's really all I can do.

Currently I'm running these settings on a P8P67 Evo
AI Overclock Tuner: Manual
BLCK Freq: 100.00
Turbo Ratio: Enabled
By All Cores: 46
Internal PLL Overvoltage: Enabled
Mem Freq: DDR3 1600
EPU power Saving: Disabled

LLC: Regular
VRM Freq: 350
Phase Control: Extreme
Duty Control: Extreme
CPU Current: 100%
CPU Voltage: Offset Mode
CPU Offset: + 0.075
DRAM: 1.5v

The rest is Auto. I can run this setup with load temps at 65c with Prime95. Very stable~

It'll bounce from 1.336 to 1.344 at this clock.

If I manually input those voltages instead of using offset~ unstable, bsod~ ever time. Yet I can run this offset for hours without issue with temps at 65c on load.

I can do the same setup at multiplier x47 with LLC on High. It's stable, but runs the voltage to 1.40 - 1.42 every time. Temps stay under 75c. If I try to do manual voltage, even at 1.42 it won't work, ever~ ever~ it just blue screen, no boots, crashes~ etc.

What the heck am I doing wrong? It's just depressing.
The problem is your setting is not correct thats why you are unstable..

Let me upload some of my Offset setting so you can see

You need to set your LLC on Ultra High or even extreme, and you can lower the other voltages 1-3 notch to keep your temps low, The problem you getting high voltage is because you set the Offset way too high for 4600 you only need around .20-.30 at most for me to get to my 4700 it only takes .25 I ran 12 hrs of prime perfectly. But for me to run at 4800 it takes up to .60 to .70 I gues my wall for my chip is at 4700.

But with my cooling i'm willing to push it to 4800 @ 1.440V and thats what i'm running 24/7 right now. change your settings and try again.

So I went and got another chip. :3 New batch, new everything.

With settings at mostly stock:
AI Overclock Tuner: Manual
BLCK Freq: 100.00
Turbo Ratio: Enabled
By All Cores: 48
Internal PLL Overvoltage: Disabled
Mem Freq: DDR3 1600
EPU power Saving: Disabled

LLC: High
VRM Freq: Auto
Phase Control: Standard
Duty Control: T.Probe
CPU Current: 100%
CPU Voltage: Offset Mode
CPU Offset: + 0.010
DRAM: 1.5v

So far, so good. I'm actually really amazed by this new chip. Said Costa Rica on the chip itself. Seems my old chip was just not really ball for this kind of game. Going to try to run it for 12 hours when I go to work on Monday and see if it's stable. Have had it running now for at least an hour no problem.

Yes, I knocked on wood. XD

Thanks for the help everyone~ I got a huge new understanding of these processors and on offset overclocking. My roommate is all "raaahraah offset sucks, blah~" and wants me to use a static stock speed. Which I may try once I get much, much better cooling. I was able to get 4.8 stable as low as 1.32 at stock~ which is pretty crazy. I'm sure I'd need to hike it up on a full test, but that's what the 12 hour run on Monday is for.

Love this place~ X3

Much much better, My Costa Rica was also much better than the previous proc I had.

That is actually better than my current proc, jealous.
I'm curious as to how well it does at 5GHz.

Attachment 215948

My 5GHz

Attachment 215949

Now a word of warning, if you use profiles always check the offset voltage before you restart.
There is a random glitch that overrides and sets an absurd amount of vcore that will kill your proc, it killed mine.

Wow~ that's wild. Thanks for the tip~ I don't use profiles but that's definitely good advice. I'll keep it in mind if I do. :3 Yeah I got lucky on this chip~ it was brand new so getting another wasn't too difficult.

Sorry for all those who subbed hoping for improvement~ seems there's a limit to what any of these things can do. Wild that something so refined can have such a large capacity for error like a processor. You'd think all these chips would be clones of each other. Imagine if cars were made like this~ XD (Wait, nvm~ they probably are~ haha)

I'm going to take the advice I got earlier in the thread and get better cooling. My girl wants a better cooler and she likes the green LED in the 9700NT.

Thinking of getting the Megahalems B3 or the Supermega. Price for performance, that brand seems to have good bang for the buck. Either that or the Venemous X.

Though does your Megahalem block your first ram slot on the board? :3

CPU pll can be lowered to 1.73V, default I believe is 1.81v.

Maybe think about a new cooler, you could probably get 10°c cooler on a good tower style cooler.
I actually need around 1.44v for 47x, that is with HT on though.

Any of todays high end tower coolers will suffice, you'll hit an uncomfortable voltage level before you run out of cooling power.

If you look at my 5ghz temps, those max temps listed were actually from ibt, P95 temps were actually 10°c lower.

It kind of blocks the 1st slot, but you can move the fan up the tower to make more clearance.

@ Snelan , what about no HT?
