What is causing those graphic anomalies below? Thats from an mmo named Pandora Saga. Is my card dying?

The wierd thing is, it only happens on some games. Ive finished Witcher 2 on mid-high settings and no problems occured. Im currently playing The Last Remnant and no problems too. System specs are same on the sig.

What are the temps like under load? Could also be poor texturing in the game.
Which driver revision are you using? Updating it or rolling it back might help.

Temps never go above 55c when playing games but goes around 65c on Furmark and other stress progs.

I dont think its the game since ive played League of Legends for quite some time and it never happened.

Currently using 11.6, i ll try rolling it back.

You should also try spraying out your GPU's heatsink/fan with some compressed air. Could help bring down temps a bit.

I rolled back to 10.5 drivers. After playing League of Legends for about 15 mins, i got the same texture lines. Are my temps going too high? I ll be cleaning my card after this post.

most likely the games fault. less likely a driver issue.

i very much doubt it is heat.

dont know much about that card in particular but i thought the older dx11 cards could take more heat than the newer ones. the nvidia dx10 cards had a max temp of like 10 degrees higher than my newer one. and those temps should be nowhere NEAR the max the card can take.

the 48xx series eventually start to run really hot over time. Especially if u are running hours on end with MMORPG type games. I really think the 48xx series are more for FPS type games played in spurts. I think secretly ATI knew of this long term effect and did a die shrunk and released the 4770 which matches the 4850 in performance.

Basically I would take it out, sell it and get something like a 5670 that doesn't need a power connector and runs super cool. Should run that game just fine.

basically trade the 4850 for a cool running 5670 and then plot a higher end card for the fall or winter.

hmmm... my rig is indeed pretty old. youre right, best bet is just to sell the card. but would it be sellable considering it has graphic anomalies on some games? wierd thing though, i ran furmark for about 3 hours last night and didnt get a single artifact.

Edit:

Knowing that Furmark is using OpenGL, i decided to loop all gpu test in 3dmark06. All other test went fine except for 1, HDR/SM3.0 Canyon Test. I had the same texture tearing and lines. Perhaps this pinpoints the exact problem. How does the Canyon Test work and how does it affect the video card?

The card sounds to be going out in some areas so maybe consider putting it out of commission for a while and using it as a backup. It could still do desktop/1080p perfectly if u just want to put it in a HTPC. Also you could let it set on your closet shelf, let it set for three months, and see if it starts working perfectly again after some "rest". Sounds weird but it might work

In the meantime get you something like a 5670 and plan on a big gpu upgrade this winter.
