Settings for Abyssus/Razer Mice

Thread Starter
Ok so I know a lot about mice but I have always had this lingering question. If you dont know about the details of mice just skip this next paragraph otherwise it has very useful info confirmed from multiple sources.

First of all I use 6/11 for 1:1 pixel ratio which everyone should use since its the most accurate. In SC2 I use 52% as 51-54% = 6/11 windows and thats what the setting actually changes. I use 3500dpi at 5 sensitivity at the highest dpi with the highest polling (500 or 1000) is what you need. I have acceleration and X/Y off and understand what they do. I have Win7 registry mouse fix to remove ALL acceleration (CPL mousefix I believe, or windows7mousefix, just google it). I have the razer drivers at 5.5/11 even though I am not sure if this feature is enabled without the acceleration enabled, however this is equivalent to 6/11 windows anyway.

Q: What is sensitivity in the razer settings? Is it DPI scaling? Does it modify the windows settings 6/11? I don't know what it does so it bothers me even though I am comfortable using the mouse. Is their an optimal setting or does it even matter for whatever this sensitivity does. Aka 5 sens 3500dpi vs 10sens 1800dpi (I assume higher dpi is always better and you just lower sensitivity).

The Abyssus is supposed to be a driverless mouse ain't it? You shouldn't have any Razer driver software installed. Use the switches on the bottom of the mouse.

Next,

Once you're using a certain amount of CPI, more is useless. So higher CPI isn't always better.

Here's the formula that lets you know how much cpi will actually be useful to you.
Quote:

minimum mouse cpi required = (in-game resolution width in pixels * pi) / ( number of inches it takes you to turn 360 degrees in-game * tan(in-game field of view / 2))

I'll give an example with my Quake settings.

In-game resolution width in pixels = 800
number if inches per 360 degree in-game turn = 10
in-game field of view = 120

so,

800*pi / (10*tan(120/2)) = 146 cpi required. The wmo has 400, so I'm ok.

Another example with 1080p and my old Crysis Wars settings.

In-game resolution width in pixels = 1920
number if inches per 360 degree in-game turn = 20
in-game field of view = 60

(1920*pi) / (20*tan(30)) = 523 cpi required, so 400 is not enough for perfect pixel accuracy. My options are to increase cpi, lower resolution, increase field of view or lower in-game sensitivity.

If you're reading carefully you'll notice that none of the results for CPI required approach anything near 1800 cpi. Forget about 5000+ cpi.

Razer didn't really remove anything. The S3888 was designed for 1800 and 3500 CPI.

Much like the Salmosa got an 800 CPI option, they only gave the Abyssus 450.
