Firefox 4.0.1 acting weird

Hey guys.

I started having this problem a few days back. The browser works great at first but after five minutes or so it gets really unresponsive. I checked task manager and 33% of CPU time and 1GB of memory was used. I was amazed, normally when I checked firefox it took around 100KB of memory. I have a fair amount of tabs open but I don't think that's the problem here. I took off my OC on CPU and GPU and after booting up again the memory usage stays around 400-500KB and CPU usage around 0-20%. Still seems quite high to me. And the OC on the CPU was rock solid, GPU had a quite weird crash today but I don't think unstable GPU could cause problems like this. I have a SSD coming soon I will be reinstalling W7 but I'm just checking, is 400-500KB memory usage okay?

I think you mean 400-500MB. I only have three tabs open after a few hours of use and Firefox is sitting at 125MB. However, it doesn't go above single-digit CPU usage when idling, so I don't know why yours is. Do you have any Flash/Java plugins running in any tabs?

Damn, I was kind of tired today but I didn't realize I was that tired

And no, no Flash/Java running. I have about 10-15 tabs open at all times. Maybe I should try clearing out cookies and stuff.

Clearing out cookies generally solves the problem on my system.

Use Ccleaner or press CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE & clear everything excluding passwords

Clearing cookies and history dropped the memory usage to around 300mb. I will monitor the memory usage after install a new W7 on the SSD I'm getting.
