If you read anything at all, you would see that he can only use that rig on weekends, meaning this is going to be his daily use rig. I think OP has a good build on his hands, just try to get the 1GB 460 though.

I may have missed the point. Why can't he use it during the week? Why will he be able to use the new one during the week? Move the good one to where he is during the week?

Wild, I see that he can't use it on the weekends now, but him stating that the other one lags and he is trying to avoid that with this rig is still quite the conundrum. Seeing as how it's basically the best you can do currently, something is really wrong there. No other processor out there should be better at handling a game while doing FRAPS, heck, my computer can do that without batting an eye.

Because that rig is at his dad's house, not his mum's house, and it's also his dad's PC, so he can't just take it.

its his own rig, so why exactly can he only use this on weekends? Whats keeping him from using this on weekdays and not stopping the *new rig* from being used only on weekends. Just doesn't make sense .. Seriously mate you are having a laugh while we *idiots try to help you and your supposed friend eh?

I am serious, and I was only trying to get feedback.

It's not an upgrade from a 980X, it's something to use while he can't use that rig, which is his dad's, not his own (you seem to be missing that),. It's meant to be a relatively good, budget rig that can be used to play some games, record them, edit them a bit, and then upload them to YouTube.

It's much easier to state everything up front.

Ok, so his dads computer is set up funky, got it!

As for the concurrent build, if you're going into and "H" MB, I would honestly consider saving some and possibly moving down to maybe a 2400 or even a 2300 if it makes a large enough monetary difference in his country of purchase. You could then place that money towards more GPU funds which would make more of the difference. Any of those quad core sandybridges are more then enough to handle mad multi-tasking, they're just that good.

I'll look about a bit. He seems pretty happy with it, even though there's no ODD. I looked into the pricing of the 1GB GTX460, and he says it's fine to put the extra AUD$25 in there. I don't think he minds about the aesthetic of the case too much either.

Good. That was my original suggestion. Drop down to the 2300 if it is worth it, and 4GB of ram and put rest towards a better GPU.

I agree with the ram too, if he were rendering I'd say the 8gb could be a safe number, but for simple game recording and editing he'll never go through 4gb of memory.

Edit: Wild, that must be the new 'efficient' version of a 6870?
