is 45-65 CPU temp okay while playing a game?

Thread Starter
Currently have a Intel-i5-2500k with a CM 212+ cooler.

Ive overclocked the standard 3.30 to 4.00 and durring games like Bad Company 2 (Full performance) im getting average temps of 45-55 but and my max is around 65.

Just wondering is this too high for it to be running at while playing games? Or is it about right.

Dont fancy damaging my CPU.

Thanks!

Hmmm that seems a little high for gaming especialy since its BF2 , if it was crysis i would say its ok at best , you may want to check out an aftermarket cooler. They will allow even higher oc also. To be sure though run prime 95 and check your temps if there going into the mid to high 70's then back off the oc

EDIT: i see you have an aftermarket cooler. You may want to re-seat that cooler with new TIM

I put it down to 3.60 last night to see how that runs.

Other people have got alot better performances with the same cooler as me and CPU. just strange. They get up to 4.2/3/5

He has an aftermarket cooler - hyper 212+

I think those temps are alright, but yeah, run prime95 and see what temps you get with that. 65 is fine for gaming IMO, 70-75 for prime would be what you're aiming for to be the hottest you can get.

How did you put on your thermal paste? Could be that or maybe the heatsink isnt positioned properly.

Circle in the middle.

Everything seems to be in place.

Thats a bit too high for an overclock of 4ghz.
I run it at 4.6GHz at 1.32Vcore and only get 60C max under prime blend test using the same cooler.

Try lowering it to 1.27-1.25, or as low as you can.

Also, how many fans do you have on it? And what fans are you using?

BTW, you wont damage your cpu unless you run it at 5GHz 1.5vcore 24/7, or if your temps are around 80-90 Celsius 24/7

Too much TIM is actually bad , there was just a thread showing a single small dot or two really small dots performed the best. Your vcore is also way to high.
